Best battery option EVT 4000e

Post by TheSiege » May 05 2020 1:23am

Right now I got 4 12v40ah SLA powering a 1500w motor. I'd love to put something lighter in there, but at decent price, any thought on what I should do?

Lithium is the way to go, but will cost like 7x as much, plus infrastructure.

Infrastructure? Just a BMS and charger right? It'd be nice to get a Chevy Volt or Leaf Battery to throw in there

Wiring, distribution hardware, circuit protection, switches, balancing gear, DMM ammeter wattmeter

maybe what you have already is good enough, maybe not.

Alternator easily fried from higher CAR. . .

Not rocket science but yes a learning curve

Well I am sure I can make what I have work, the biggest issue would be discharge rate of the pack. But I am no stranger to this. I am electrician and have about every meter possible. Installing a BMS would be the only thing I have never done before, but I have taken apart more than one pack with a BMS so I am pretty familiar

G'day people's.
I'll share my experience with my lithium conversion.
I have a EVT 168. Same electronics & mechanics as the 4000e. Swapped out the moped controller ( silver grey main lead, 50km/h top speed ) for the scooter controller ( black main lead, 60km/h top speed ) & changed the batts for 40Ah "Fusion" brand LiFe batts with limited success.
The Fusion batts are the same size as the original SLA items but at around 6kg each, about half the weight. They are designed as a drop in replacement for SLA in standby & backup uses. The BMS even allows you to use a standard SLA 1 or 2 stage charger so you can use the original EVT 4x12v charger with no mods.
The Fusion batts increased my range to 70km using mainly power mode.
Too good to be true? Well boys & girls, here's the rub..
1/ The Fusion batts cost about 4 times as much as SLA batts.
2/ They are rated at 10 amps continuous with a burst current of 80 amps for 10 seconds meaning that that if you draw too much, say accelerate too hard or too steep a hill in power mode, one or more of the batts BMS shut down for about a minute leaving you on the side of the road, sometimes with lots of rude words being yelled by / at you.
Back off a bit when the gauge drops to yellow & the warning beeper sounds ( at around 30km/h ) then gun it & you're fine.
I tend to take off in Eco mode then switch to Power mode at 40Km/h but I still have to watch my acceleration until over 30Km/h.
I think Fusion have a larger capacity battery with greater maximum current in a similar footprint.

I was thinking of a 12s3p or even 2p if I could find it, Chevy volt battery. Its what I have in my ZEV 6000 and it works great, thoughts?

I was thinking this

OR
https://egopowerplus.com/backpack-link/

But I think I would want to take 4 3d printed mounts and use 4 7.5ah batteries for 30 ah. That way I am not discharging at too high of current. Thoughts?

Anyone know what kind of connector this is

No just one big battery easier to monitor and take care of and manage.
Maybe viewtopic.php?f=31&t=88051#p1285091
If you want to make a battery. And IMR battery in Texas lots of choices and prices.
I still like leaf gen2 modules 40ah and pick a voltage 6p or 7p @ 8.4 volt

Love them not my style too big for my Trane bike frame. there are plenty of men and women here on this website that knows exactly how to get your Gen 2 leaf batteries if they fit you. Make sure they fit then order. you might need something different like the BMW i3 battery or something different than that. Before you buy any set of batteries get a box in a razor blade and get some duct tape and masking tape and make a box and see if it fits your project. First. A lot of times the batteries are too big to go in the box. Clue.
