Re: 40T, neodymium magnets, plasti dip cycle test

ya I was thinking of of whacking 1/8 copper rod like a rivet/mushroom it to lock it in place but now that I know what a 40 watt solder iron does to the magnetism? just now I grabbed some UV activated glue I had and glued the wire in then a sanding on the cloth for a flat mating surface https://i.im...

Re: 40T, neodymium magnets, plasti dip cycle test

Just spitballing here but how about a flat head machine screw through the hole, then crimp the wire to the threaded end and slather the wire side in non conductive epoxy or something? Another idea, less screws though possibly more screwy. Take that electrode and put it in a vice with say 1mm stickin...

Re: Thoughts? Ebike ticketed/conviction upheld (Canada)

Can't lie, I'm half tempted tempted to stuff it with Lipos and go trolling bikers. Of course it would probably fold on the first pothole and kill me, so maybe not. Ex-Wife might have a point I guess. Next thing you know they're grown up and full patch members of something or other all because you ju...

Wow you guys are really going all in. Glad to see it. Nuc aside the controller market was stagnated and it's good to see companies beginning to push the envelope and actually release controllers with a feature set past the basic stuff we've grown accustomed to seeing. I look forward to seeing user f...

Re: Thoughts? Ebike ticketed/conviction upheld (Canada)

Not suggesting that's necessarily how pas works, just that I hit 3kmh on the first downstroke so you're probably already going at least that speed by the time pas kicks in. (Never had a pas bike either, so just my assumption, but torque based didn't exist when the law was written afaik) I assume the...

Re: Thoughts? Ebike ticketed/conviction upheld (Canada)

allows the driver to turn the motors on and off from a normal seated position while operating the motor assisted cycle, or Brake lever cut off, but frankly the key switch and the throttle itself would satisfy this. I agree technical specs are what the law needs to be based no not looks, but frankly...

Re: Thoughts? Ebike ticketed/conviction upheld (Canada)

FWIW the rims for 10" scooter tires are greater than 25cm in diameter. It's stupid to go by rim size anyway due to the vast differences is tires. These kinds of detailed rules is what prompted my earlier comment that we should allow prejudiced cyclists to craft regulations for electrics. This "If i...

FWIW that is a nice rim that is no longer available. I have the 16" version.

Don't need it but would still consider if I were on the same continent.

Good luck with the sale.

Re: Installing a new controller on Taotao 806

I believe that the ebrake wire will go to either high level plug or low level plug. I suspect that low level is regen braking and high level is active regen braking (active meaning it actually uses power to bring the wheel to a stop) You probably want to connect it to low level. This thread may help...

Re: Installing a new controller on Taotao 806

I found out that the fourth blue/wire in throttle connector sends a signal to the controller preventing the motor from turning when the brakes are on. I could be wrong, but if that's the case I'd expect it to be going to a brake lever and not the throttle. Can you tell where that wire goes after it...

Re: Overvolting

Depends on how they set it up to begin with. If they're running all of the ancillary stuff at pack voltage you'll need to make sure all of the components are rated to handle the higher voltage. However if they use a dc to dc converter to change pack voltage into 12v then you'll likely just need to e...

Edits made by moderators are not always identified or labeled. I believe this is purely voluntary. Depends on how they have things configured in the forums admin control panel. Don't know if mods or supermods necessarily have the option by default, but they easily could if given the privilege. An a...

Which post? Usually if you edit after someone replies it says "Edited by:" in the message suffix, usually even if done by a mod. So whomever did it either did it themselves before anyone replied or it was done by someone with enough admin privileges to edit things without leaving a public record. As...

Re: Thoughts? Ebike ticketed/conviction upheld (Canada)

That was the appeal. Can he appeal a failed Supreme Court appeal? I'm not sure how that works really. You do make a good point though. If the OD of the wheel/tire combo of a 12" scooter is over 350mm/13.37795" then it seems that the judge based that part of his decision on rim diameter and not OD of...

Re: Thoughts? Ebike ticketed/conviction upheld (Canada)

Also, and I didn't look into it too deeply, but the law seems to constantly reference wheels, not tires. If some future judge happens to realize there is a difference between those two words, adding sidewall might not be enough to save you. FWIW, "wheel" usually includes everything from the axle to...

Yeah, it seems that even if the wheels were large enough the judge would have ruled against him purely because he stated that he never used the pedals and had no intention of ever doing so. Had the wheels been larger and he had kept his yap shut, or at the very least said that he uses the pedals as...

I don't get the court case, I think the Judge was wrong. as long as you have the pedals on the scooter and chain is connected, stay off the sidewalks and walk your scooter at crosswalks. the only BS rule they can nail you on is having to go 3km/h before the motor starts but all of them are like tha...

Ah, Whalley then. Not exactly what I wanted to hear. I went though Invergarry, Hawthorne, Green Timbers and Tynehead today.
