Re: Thoughts? Ebike ticketed/conviction upheld (Canada)

Not my taste either, but different strokes for different folks. I bet it would still be fun to tool around on. Could replace your car with 100ah too. 8)

It would be nice if that were an option to ride, but no pedals so wholly illegal here. Bass Ackwards

Re: Help???

Might as well just have turkey if you're going to go ground turkey. If I want plant based I'll eat the mashed potatoes, yams, and cranberry sauce that are on the plate with it.

You were right the first time about the the meatloaf.

Re: Thoughts? Ebike ticketed/conviction upheld (Canada)

Insurance company will give you a policy, its probably not going to be $200/year for the speeds you require to be covered under. Higher the speeds the higher the risk of severity. Not in BC they won't. ICBC anyway. They're the only ones who count as far as basic liability is concerned here, accordi...

Re: Thoughts? Ebike ticketed/conviction upheld (Canada)

Hell I'd be cool with that too, as an option anyway. I'm just not one to request that the government apply further pressure to the boot that they already have on my throat. Some people just can't leave well enough alone though and keep asking for more, as long as it only screws-over the other guy.

Re: Help???

Take a breath. We'll try to help you, but we need a clear and complete understanding of what you have, what happened to cause the issue, what you've done before and after the issue, etc. Lot of knowledgeable people here, but chances are the number who are familiar with your specific bike is very low...

Re: Thoughts? Ebike ticketed/conviction upheld (Canada)

Why shouldn't bikers on the road be required to have insurance? Obviously if it became a significant percentage of commuters that day will come. Is there no public tax / fee collection in Holland for example? Because I don't want to end up spending $500 per month per household member someday to ped...

Re: Thoughts? Ebike ticketed/conviction upheld (Canada)

Completely self serving, as I said. Keep siding with the killjoy and that's exactly what you're sure to end up with. Far more people than you might realize want literally any form of transportation past walking to require license, registration and insurance to operate in public, powered or not. Whic...

This is the second day in a row, on two separate forums, where meatloaf has come up in discussion out of absolutely nowhere. I think that's a sign. When was the last time you had a good meatloaf? Mmmm, meatloaf. This message brought to you by the Association of Beef Farmers of North America ... but ...

As for the OP, did you say you hit a tree with the bike, busted the throttle, and all of this started after you replaced said throttle?
Hope your family is well.

Re: Thoughts? Ebike ticketed/conviction upheld (Canada)

They cannot be registered or insured at all here. Whatsoever. They're not classified as motor vehicles and don't fit the definition of a LSV (Low Speed Vehicle) either. Who is harmed by allowing these things to be used as clean alternative transportation? No one. It's just the self serving among us ...

Re: Thoughts? Ebike ticketed/conviction upheld (Canada)

I concur, they don't seem to look fondly upon high performance e-bikes. A distinction worth noting however is that the bike which spawned the thread, the XMR, is the polar opposite of a high performance bike. It looks like a mini sport bike, but that's about where the similarities end. It's almost l...

Re: Thoughts? Ebike ticketed/conviction upheld (Canada)

This is why I liked the original AZ law, which simply required that the assisted bike be "operated at less than 20MPH", leaving everythign up to the operator just like any other form of transportation. I like the simplicity, but this 20mph limit many areas seem to have settled on seems unnecessaril...

Re: Thoughts? Ebike ticketed/conviction upheld (Canada)

Sorry I misread what you said about the speeds people tend to ride in your area on MUP's and it all went sideways from there. I believe we're on the same page regarding unreasonable power limitations. To keep things short, I'd rather see them institute a reasonable speed limit on MUP's and use the ...

Re: Thoughts? Ebike ticketed/conviction upheld (Canada)

So because one didn't earn the physical conditioning to travel at above average pace they should be disallowed from riding at even a snails pace whenever the path points slightly uphill. Gotcha. If a car can go 100mph is it then inherently unsafe to operate in a school zone at the speed limit? No, o...

Re: Thoughts? Ebike ticketed/conviction upheld (Canada)

The motors have never been a matter of contention thus far to my knowledge, at least in North America. To date no-one has ever been pinched because their motor didn't melt down and fail when pushed past whatever legal limit was set decades ago. It shouldn't matter anyway. If the hardware powering it...

Re: Thoughts? Ebike ticketed/conviction upheld (Canada)

You should know that listed motor power ratings are virtually meaningless. What's a 500w motor, one that melts down at 501w? If it only gets 500w nominal out of the controller for all intents and purposes it's a 500w motor, at least as configured. It could be the size of a qs273, if it doesn't have ...

Re: Thoughts? Ebike ticketed/conviction upheld (Canada)

I'm not arguing against ebrakes, just speculating as to why they imposed the 3kmh requirement before the motor kicks in. I suspect they conceived of and wanted to prevent a situation where the motor kicked on due to an inadvertent minor pedal rotation, perhaps without a rider aboard, resulting in in...
