Re: Thoughts? Ebike ticketed/conviction upheld (Canada)

Didn't hear about that other rider. Any idea where that happened? I was out today and yesterday. Didn't do anything differently but I'll try to remember to clown pedal. Unlike Motorino guy my feet are always on my pedals. Hard to prove I never intended to use them when I'm standing on them. Should p...

Re: Thoughts? Ebike ticketed/conviction upheld (Canada)

They were supposedly in talks with Sunahme a number of years ago, but nothing ever came of it. You're right though, if not long before. Once they realize what 500w actually rides like, we're boned. Hmm. I wonder if they'll be limited to 500w too? What motor controller combo is faster than a Ford Exp...

Re: Thoughts? Ebike ticketed/conviction upheld (Canada)

Also, I disagree with the judges interpretation of the intent of the law regarding mac's. Per ICBC: "Motor-assisted cycle (detailed definition) To qualify as a MAC, certain conditions must be met. For example: The electric motor must be 500 watts or less and be capable of propelling the cycle no fas...

Re: Thoughts? Ebike ticketed/conviction upheld (Canada)

If only it were that easy: "The trail judge continued in his reasons to disqualify the Motorino XMr as a MAC as follows: [21] However, quite apart from the discrepancy related to wheel size, I would disqualify it as a MAC for the simple reason that it does not function in accordance with the intenti...

Re: Trefecta knockoff frames

Is it just me, or does that appear to be a whole lot of unsprung mass on the rear?

I'm sure it cost a fortune to design develop and build, but at 25 grand there's little wonder why they never went anywhere.

Re: Will this setup work?

You can use that frame if you want, just not with that particular mid drive. There are a handful of other mids which should presumably work and any number of hub motors as well. Most here would likely recommend full suspension though, and I'd agree. Controllers, you can go cheap or expensive dependi...

Re: wiring 3 horns in series

True that the amperage could be a concern, especially if the momentary switch isn't rated for the load (and perhaps even if it is). Using a relay for switching would likely be a good practice. Cheap, easy to deploy, and shouldn't take up much space. If you're into overkill you could still drive the ...

Re: Phase wires /halls colour matching - Which Way?

bummer, had no clue. I assumed the motor would only suck down what the controller would let it (which i guess is moot when the controller isnt working right) Accurate, but if the controller is set to draw 85a from a pack designed to provide 20a it's going to trip the bms as soon as you roll on the ...

Re: Phase wires /halls colour matching - Which Way?

. Still, the qs205h50 is very efficient and will run a low power bike NP. Only, that is a lot of weight for a low performance build. fwiw I have the same motor on a similar bike. When I first started using it I tried being quasi-legal and dialing back the power to as low as 60a (Battery). Not only ...

Re: wiring 3 horns in series

Can you? Yes. Should you? Maybe not. Sending full pack voltage to a button on the bars could end badly. At best a stuck horn button, at worst :kff: :bolt: :warn: Whether a 12v automotive fuse would have the desired effect is anyone's guess when operated at 4x it's rating. Might be fine, might arc an...

Re: E-S LMX 64 Bike Owners

There appear to be some substantial differences between the two swingarms both in location of the pivot point and shock angle. Would replacing one with the other not potentially also lead to higher/different loads than intended? Does it change the ride height or geometry? Just curious if this is so...

Re: Phase wires /halls colour matching - Which Way?

In a nutshell: Voltage = speed Amperage = torque Amp Hours = range If what you have now will provide 30 amps and you double the number of cells by adding the same number in parallel you'll have 60 amps peak on tap. Still woefully underpowered for that motor, but getting closer. 80-100 amps would be ...

Re: Phase wires /halls colour matching - Which Way?

A QS205 50H with a 30 amp battery behind it? That's not nearly enough to motivate that motor. If it gets pointed uphill it will probably labor so hard it overheats before you reach the top, if it doesn't sap the pack to LVC first.

You can actually damage your meter by measuring voltage with it set to continuity...
Can confirm. Once tested a 240v circuit with the meter accidentally set to 200k Ω. Meter exploded in my hands. Never made that oversight again.

Why would you try to buy South Korean batteries from China? You'll find no warranty because they're almost guaranteed to be counterfeit.

Buy your cells from trusted retailers only.

Re: LMX BIKE in distress: crack on the main frame

Honestly I would have a difficult time ever trusting that frame again. The idea of it coming apart while at speed would always be nagging at me. That said if you can replace the swingarm then have your trusted metalworker fix the remaining broken weld and review the rest to ensure he doesn't see any...

Glad you were able to get the BMS to kick on. Sorry to hear you popped the fuse again. Good soldering practice though I guess. As usual, Amber is dead on. Redo the fuse and fix or swap out that controller and with any luck you should be back in business. Make sure to carefully check the phase and ha...
