Re: what are your other hobbies

For me I'd say dogs is the #1 hobby. I've got two " regular dogs" a bloodhound and a St Bernard. The other two bloodhounds are fosters that in a perfect world I'd find homes for, but now I'm stuck with. One hound just hates other dogs and has been known to actually eat them. The other is truly psych...

Re: 1st e-bike project and a couple of questions

Boy I do sometimes forget that for most folks, water does indeed come from the sky! Here we have to mine it like oil. I just meant that it could be worth changing which bike if you could find the steel rear swingarm. But that was before I looked at the bike pic. A good rack will have no problems wit...

Re: Electrolysis of water into Hydrogen & Oxygen

That is how I understand it to work. But I still suspect a lot of people just start driving better after the install, and viola! they get better mileage. There is no doubt though, that the gas burns real good. Especially at about midnight on the 4th. My wife got called out to the NMSU chem building ...

I neglected to mention how I learned to be more carefull. I have the charger plugs well marked now. I'm just that cheap, but it was a good, right now ,solution at the time.

Re: what motor/system to buy?

Unlike most of us fanatics on the forum, many many many people will never ride enough to wear out the brushes. Brushed is a good cheap way to get a bit more power without paying chyrstalite top of the line prices. It will have poor range, but so will any non geared motor that really pulls. Not tryin...

Re: 1st e-bike project and a couple of questions

Say that does look like a nice bike for conversion. I really like the strong gusset on the seatpost tube. Regular racks don't work on rear suspension bikes so you will be hanging about 40 pounds off the seat tube most likely. It's one of the reasons I went to Lifepo4. My cheapo mongoose allready fle...

Re: 1st e-bike project and a couple of questions

Also welcome. How refreshing to see a newbie that has a realistic commute for an ebike. Unlike those who have to be gently informed that 25 miles round trip without charging at 30 plus mph aint happening, you have an ideal ride for the tool. You should very easily have plenty of range for that ride ...

Maybe the battery was not as charged as you think? with Lifepo4 a voltmeter tells you a lot less than with a lead battery. i'd love to be able to measure the watthours actually absorbed by my battery.

Or they just got the three pin plugs really cheap from the chinese version of Vinny. Some scooter designs may actually need it.

Re: Electrolysis of water into Hydrogen & Oxygen

A more complete combustion is very plausible, and would be worth it even if it cost you more. My common sense alarm says teeny tiny ammounts are not enough to affect it much. Its not a catylyst, Just a gas that burns real good. In large quantities it would surely have signifigant effects.

True, another thread sidetracked. Before my crash I never read page 2 of most threads. Now I'm laying in bed bored stiff, waiting to heal and fall into the trap of a discussion for it's entertainment value.

I'm such a cheapo, I just spliced on plugs from two dollar extention cords. At least both positive and negative are female on them on the battery side. I do have to be carefull not to plug in the charger backwards though! electricscooterparts.com has lots of connectors for chargers.

Yes you will want a nice strong 48 volt motor then, and for the price, brushed has more power.

Of course they have, just commenting on the bike in the pictures. Edison would recognise everything on my bike. That's one reason some of the junk stuff out there is so inexcusable.

Chrystalite, from ebikesca seems to get the nod for service and product reliability. For less money, brushed hubs have more power to climb hills, but it costs you range, as do the more powerful models of brushless hubs. Wilderness Energy is good cheap value, with less customer service. Thier website...

Re: 24v Charger Question

Third pin is ground. Make sure to use a voltmeter to determine which wire is positive and which is negative. Looking at the pic on the link, maybe it just makes a grounding connection between the frame of the scooter and the body of the charger. Changing to two pin should be fine.

Have you looked at ebay lifepo4's The ping batteries are good, but hard to get at the moment. If you have money there are lots of choices. You will need a charge controller, and may have trouble finding them for anything but lead. Each kind of battery chemistry needs its specific charger to charge a...

I suppose cornering a big heavy hub motor with the power off would be scary. I learned to goose the throttle when I was scared I'd entered a corner too fast a long long time ago. I really like the way that works with the front hub now. Especially on the dang trike, the front motor pulling me along w...

My one ton chevy crew cab truck hauls my hot air balloon. Not that I can afford to fly it much nowdays. On a sunday morning flight, we'll use 10-20 gallons of gas in the truck, and 20 -40 gallons of propane. I know, for global waming I'm a Baaad Boy. I bet I release a lot of co2 out of the champagne...
