Re: Street-Legal BBSHD (in '250w' australia)

I would take 'at the wheel' to encompass the controller, the parameters, the gearing, etc. The whole system, not just the survival temperature of the motor windings. It makes far more sense. Plus the fact it states dyno testing really does imply the power is measured at the tyres contact point. So w...

Re: Street-Legal BBSHD (in '250w' australia)

G'day Sunder,

I just tried to download the standard. They want 300 Swiss francs, which is 421 Aussie dollars!

But, the NSW law states 250w 'at the wheel', which has little to do with the physical motor itself.

Re: Street-Legal BBSHD (in '250w' australia)

So a 250W continuous is what you are hanging your hat on. Yes that's right. I'm hanging my hat on their wording, and of course my interpretation of it, which is how law works, ask any lawyer. Nothing is black n white, and yes this is certainly grey. On what degree of slope, for how long, in what wi...

Re: Street-Legal BBSHD (in '250w' australia)

Manufacturer = me If I were presented with that, as an officer who really cared to enforce the law, I wouldn't buy it. Their system appears to be "take the manufacturer's word for it", understandably as the alternative would be rather unmanageable. That can only work with manufacturers who have som...

Re: Street-Legal BBSHD (in '250w' australia)

Apology accepted  I had read justins rant many times. I think the wording of the law addresses most of it. 250w continuous power at the rear wheel... nothing to do with 'rated' watts, and nothing to do with overheating. Peak power limit is not stated and ' very short periods of time ' is su...

Street-Legal BBSHD (in '250w' australia)

I have just built up a Surly Troll with a BBSHD that I believe conforms to all the EN15194 rules that Australia uses. These are the official wordings from the NSW state government in Australia To comply with EN 15194: • The motor must be electric • The maximum continuous power output of the motor ca...

No french-speaking girl would ever marry a man that cannot.
But I'd say it came easy. The French. It's second language in canada.

Re: 2nd Half Plans

So why would two award candidates such as Eric and Stephane take that route ? Mr and Mrs Grin are heading on a different route to Eric and Stephane. If you zoom in on the map you'll see. God knows which turns who takes? Did the riders submit planned routes?? Can we see them?? I can't wait to get ba...

They have company too!
In that video, Justin did say there were 3 teams taking the southern-most route.

Re: My Sun Trip Bike, Back to Back Tandem Trike with Rowing Generator, Pedals, +Solar

Its a rather strange style... Participate in a race without even the intention to get to the goal? That's not really participating. .. Maybe the organizers were happy enough to oblige because it is another starting fee without even the cost of the return shipping of the vehicle (which is probably t...

Re: My Sun Trip Bike, Back to Back Tandem Trike with Rowing Generator, Pedals, +Solar

I suppose it was always on the cards... Team Grin have left the southern route to go further south. Looks like they won't be seeing any other riders for a long time.

Who'd have thought Justin would follow everyone else? Nobody.

Just them and their adventure, I like their style.

Not sure if this link was posted or not. It wasn't an obvious find from the Sun Trip website. http://race.thesuntrip.com/en/ That live map is awesome! Looks like they are in fourth place within the group taking the southern route. Are you camping Justin? Or hostels? Looks like you're in a park for ...

I was thinking about making a TSDZ info summary thread, maybe it can be locked, and keep all the useful data that is confirmed for everyone's reference... What do you all think? Brilliant! Trawling through threads full of opinions and mis-information is getting particularly annoying. Keep it scient...

Re: stromer st1 lock cylinder replacement?

Hi electrcifun, I'm a locksmith, i had a look on youtube at the locking function, does the key just unlock the button on the other side? ie doesn't interface to the actual battery? It just looks like an ordinary camlock, probably with a special cam on the end of it. I'd take it out and take it to a ...

2WD - Front hub plus mid drive to rohloff

That's my plan anyway. And I already have the rohloff, so a middrive makes sense there. Both to be 250w legal (australia) so if I get caught with both at least I can make 2x legal bikes and haven't blown my cash. Probably the Bafang G01 front hub. Either TSDZ or BBS01 mid drive. Will the CA (cycle a...
