Fabricating a curved side battery box?

The time has come in my build to have to figure it out, and soon. I’m building a full suspension Schwinn cruiser and need a box that can stick to the curved contours of the frame. My battery will be about 17kg, plus controller and onboard charger probably another 3kg, bus bars etc so let’s say it ne...

Re: High power ebike frame

Qs273 is a BIG motor. It’s going to handle like shit pretty much anywhere except for drag racing. Too much rotational mass too far away from the best place (the middle). For off-road you will want to go with a mid drive. Your best bet for a swingarm is still a dirtbike 200mm swingarm. That takes car...

Re: High power ebike frame

Qs273 is a motorcycle motor. you can easily modify a motorcycle frame. 200mm is a standard swingarm size. You’ll just have to figure out the torque arms.

Re: Cheapest e-components for 55mph?

Thanks for all the effort everybody put into this thread. It didn’t go to waste. I’ve ordered a qs205 with the 19” moto rim, CAv3, and an ASI 4000w controller from Alan at ERT. Got a smokin deal. Still need to buy the battery and charger. Probably gonna go with multistars and meanwells. I looked up ...

Re: Aluminum vs Steel vs Carbon E-bike Frames

Interesting read http://www.sheldonbrown.com/chicago-schwinns.html The limit for a stock schwinn is approx 8hp, with 4 gussets in the rear and a sleeved seat tube is around 11hp, and with major gusseting and bracing around 15hp. Unfortunately. However, I think that by cutting the rear end off and b...

120/80-14 on a 14x1.85?

Will it fit? There is a 90/100 on it now, it’s a cheap pitbike wheel I got cheap. I want to put the widest and tallest road tire possible.

Re: Aluminum vs Steel vs Carbon E-bike Frames

I like building with steel because it is easy to work with and very, very cheap. $200 welder, $60 for grinder and supplies, $10 map gas and.... $30 worth of local steel for my project. However it is very heavy. I'm looking into cf myself. I'd be looking into aluminum too however, there is nothing ne...

Re: Low cost Down Hill Triple Crown Fork

I have never run a suspension fork I couldn't trust.. So I ended up running a dual crown rigid fork for a long, long time. Worked great, only I lowsided many, many times. But I've never had a front end failure. If I were to buy a fork again, I'd go to treatland.tv in SF and get an EBR hydraulic mope...

Re: Suitable rim width?

You can run pretty much any rim you want. But wider is better for the street. I ran a DM24 in the back for over 10000 miles with tires from 1.95 to 3" wide, riding hard and fast as well. I'd go with a wider rim however, cause tires will wear to a flat and it's better to have a less sharp angle on th...

Hey can I ride with you guys?!

I'm saving for an ebike... Currently building another gas bike to sell and restoring a vintage schwinn road bike that MAY or may not get a hub motor.

I want to convert this build to electric:

Re: Cheapest e-components for 55mph?

I looked up everything in your post. Dammit Rhino, why'd you have to show me those monster brakes. Now I have to upgrade  I'm only using the motorcycle frame and fork because it was cheap ($80 for a rusty motorcycle) and was easier than building a whole new frame. With this one I only built th...

Re: Cheapest e-components for 55mph?

I have a lot to say on the safety of bike frames, brakes, and wheel components. The short version is, respect the power  Stock steel quality bicycle frames will work fine up to around 4hp with little to no modifications. When my bike was a schwinn, I braced the heck out of it: 212cc Schwinn...

Re: What's a good e bike headlight?

The LED work light from the auto parts store works great. I use the round one with 6 LEDs for $30. Very bright. Main thing to look for in lights is you want flood lights, not spot lights. Those little retro looking ones for $6 a piece on ebay are cheap spotlights which are not so bright, and their m...

Re: E-bike Average speed vs Bike vs Car

Pulling a trailer with a bike kind of sucks. I mean, it doesn't suck THAT bad, and probably not at 20mph for sure, but when you're on it if you need to back up or make a tight u-turn, it becomes kind of a PITA. I built a bike trailer for my bike once, and towed it fully loaded a few times (~250lb) u...

Quite the warm welcome. It's very simple rumme, nobody asked you to hijack my thread, and nobody asked for your opinion about the safety of this. rumme, read the title of the thread. CHEAPEST E-COMPONENTS. Not bike hardware. I already have a bike that does 60mph and is PROVEN over thousands of miles. I just want it to be electric. Since you presume to have so much common sense, consider these points: 1. A person who is going to spend $1500 or...

Re: Help sourcing tube clamps

split shaft collars, locking shaft collars, but good luck finding them in 52mm. You could also try some 52mm ID tubing, or 2" ID tubing and open it up a bit, cut it down the length with a grinder cutoff wheel, then weld two nuts on with one drilled out.
