Re: Crystalyte 5300 wiring questions .

The wires are currently all stock but there's an additional 3 core wire going through for a thermocouple. I'm a bit ashamed to say I didn't radius those edges- I meant to but totally forgot last time I had it in bits . I stripped it down for a look because it had been running worse and there were sm...

Re: Crystalyte 5300 wiring questions .

A quick measurement shows 2.0mm phase, what signal wire size is recommended - the originals were/are thin with added corrosion!

Crystalyte 5300 wiring questions .

My Crystalyte 5300 has started running badly -rough and kind of jerky so after checking all of the wiring etc. I've stripped the motor and it seems that the problem is the insulation has worn through on the phase wires causing a short. What are the standard phase wire specs, and are there any recomm...

Re: XPD: open-source keywin e-bike lab replacement

Since XPD is a python file rather than an exe it is less likely they can piggyback anything to it, so this applies more to executables. No-one is saying it is the writers of Python that does this- it is the download sites adding their extra programs causing issues mentioned here- although there is ...

Re: XPD: open-source keywin e-bike lab replacement

... The other comment is that SourceForge has gone to the dark side with new ownership and the world is moving to GitHub and BitBucket or Google Sites is also good for small projects. Watch the SourceForge downloads for nasty extra unasked for and unwanted software, I've had to clean a few computer...

Re: Big spark when connecting battery to bike

Would anyone know if it matters if you use the resistor between the positive connectors or the negative? Everyone shows it on the positive side, but I can't see why it would matter? I have been using a 1 watt 100 OHM resistor and it seems to work without any issues. I can feel slight heating after ...

Re: RFID Keyswitch

I've had a little time to look at the circuit of that switch at last- it's switched using a changeover relay so it'll be possible to use it by modifying its' standard wiring a little. It's just disconnecting the common on the relay from the onboard relay and putting the supply feed to it, then using...

Re: Controller on/off switching question

Sadly I'm a build circuits kind of guy not a design kind of guy. An add on kind of circuit would be the best option until (or if) the controller designs evolve to include this as an option. It looks like a separate supply will be the way for me to go, thanks.

Re: Has anyone got an Ursus Jumbo centre stand?

That is like the stand I originally had. It was arguably the best of all of the stands I've tried- probably 5 different ones now. It failed when one of the legs wouldn't stay at the set height, slipping out of the notch and eventually leaning and falling over. I had a pipe clip fastened to the leg h...

Controller on/off switching question

The switching wire on my Lyen 18 FET controllers are fed from the battery voltage which varies from around 30V to 80V depending on how the bike is set up, but is there any way to switch the controller on and off using a lower switching voltage? I was thinking that using a Cree led light supply would...

Re: Has anyone got an Ursus Jumbo centre stand?

Update after 9 months, and one mild winter with the bike stored indoors : I'm less impressed now than when the stand was first fitted. - The black coating is peeling away- quite badly in places- revealing what appears to be corrosion of the underlying metal. - Part of the casting (where it fits agai...

Re: RFID Keyswitch

ok, that switch arrived at the second attempt- the supplier sent an ugly very small t-shirt with a tartan stripe first- and I have to say don't buy one. It is on by default (when powered up) and when swiped it switches off. OK up to now but swiping again doesn't switch it on- it does nothing and you...

Re: RFID Keyswitch

If there are problems using it at our varied/variable pack voltages I'd think this limitation would be fairly easy to overcome- some of the members here really know their way round electronics as has been frequently shown. At the price of this unit even doubling, tripling ... the price is still good...

Re: 18 FET Low RDS MOSFET Overclocker Ready LYEN Controller

I have 2 Lyen controllers and having one of them sensorless would be good. Better yet if it was a switchable option but I guess that would be impracticable for Mk 1 and Mk 2 boards. Are there any 18 FET programmable controllers with both sensor and sensorless operation? Or 15 FET, or 12 FET (at a pu...

Re: expected battery life?

Your cells should have an expected life of about 1500 cycles. This is the number of cycles to get to a reduced capacity of 80% of original - still a really usable battery at that point. That said, as others have mentioned there are ways to abuse your battery that will shorten its life considerably....

What kind of life should I expect from LiFePO4 (15Ah) Headway cells? This winter the Voltage drop is definitely much more noticeable than previous winters when going into headwinds and speed drop is appreciable. Speed is pretty much normal when not going into headwinds. I should be able to work rou...

Re: expected battery life?

Thanks guys. It sounds like it may be an age thing as I'd thought. I'll strip the wrap and measure individual cell voltages when charged, and after use. I could rig something up to measure individual cell voltages when in use later on if it seems necessary. If there are a few poor cells they could b...
