Re: Lightest and most compact E-Bike charger 14s(DIY GaN charger research)

It seems that To(Texas instruments) have interesting GaN charging reference designs.

I am guessing that some of them can be used or adapted for a nice 99% efficient, lightweight and portable charger.

Would appreciate any comments

Re: Lightest and most compact E-Bike charger 14s(DIY GaN charger research)

Option 3) Can some of the hub controller circuitry be reused to charge the battery. Let's say I unplug the hub motor leads and plug AC 230v to another connector on the controller...It's all linked up to the battery anyway  As far as I understand the GaN stuff is used as a first stage from AC T...

Lightest and most compact E-Bike charger 14s(DIY GaN charger research)

I plan on E-Bike Touring and need to keep weight to a minimum. I will be carrying AC charger with me to top up where possible. Everything that can be made lighter is welcome and hence focusing on the charger. Two Batteries is 14s each. At the moment I use 2x 58.8v 4amps brick chargers either in para...

There are other things like reference designs for GaN rectifier but 54.6v are not to be found  Eltek Flatpack SHE have GaN transistors and achieve almost 98%. https://www.eltek.com/globalassets/media/downloads/brochures/she_brochure.pdf I checked the Eltek Flat pack SHE against the Huawei R48...

New Gallium(GaN) chargers -any tangible benefit to ebike battery charging?

The newer GaN wall chargers have been making rounds at CES 2020. The question I have is if there are any clear benefits to be had for portable ebike charging - 13s - 54.6v DC. 99% efficiency is what these things advertise ...how does this compare with standard brick charger used before GaN - weight ...

Used the cells I bought from James today and they performed very good indeed.
The voltage drop I experienced(ebike) with other chemistry cells was much less noticeable with these.

Re: Practical advice on achieving the 10min full charge LTO(Titanate) cells are meant to deliver

Ride a folding bike long distance? Nope! ... and Street AC/DC recharging in 40mins ... As to 25kg+ battery it's not a deal breaker on its own ... 25kg (by the time it's built into a sturdy pack you're looking at ~30kg) on a bike frame is a lot. Before commiting to something like that I really would...

Re: Practical advice on achieving the 10min full charge LTO(Titanate) cells are meant to deliver

AW is right you live in the UK I would buy those eig cells in a heartbeat. They look easy to bolt together I got 13 cells off James to test today. Come well packaged and from a new stack of 50. Female terminals are M3 size from what I found and I also ordered copper rivets to then thread myself wit...

Re: Practical advice on achieving the 10min full charge LTO(Titanate) cells are meant to deliver

Had to recheck on the 30 min charge - 20ah cells charged at 10a(0.5c as per spec) would actually take 2 hours right? yeah, sorry, i'm still exhausted from nightmares (from peanutbutters' death three weeks ago), so math is not my friend right now (actually, it never is, but especially now). Re: Practical advice on achieving the 10min full charge LTO(Titanate) cells are meant to deliver

just some stuff to run by you, as food for thought: if those are like most of the nmc cells i've seen / used, they'll only have a 0.5c charging rate, meaning it will take about 30 minutes to charge to mostly full, with the appropriate charger. probably about 45-50 minutes for "really full", assumin...

Re: Practical advice on achieving the 10min full charge LTO(Titanate) cells are meant to deliver

I have a 24s A123 20ah pouch cells charge as 2 12s with mean well 24v turned to 28.8v and a 12.6v HP 550 power supply times two. This is the limit for my garage outlet. Any more juice it will trip breaker. I think 42.3v @ 14mps each in 50 min. For 6.5 years 1,480 cycles 24,00 miles still going stro...

It strikes me that more than 3 phases may or may not benefit towards my goal. What did you have in mind? This was a directed at hub motor design. No specifics unfortunately Interesting. Can you post a link with more info on a hub motor with more than 3 phases? Curious about how that works. There is...

Re: Practical advice on achieving the 10min full charge LTO(Titanate) cells are meant to deliver

Glad to hear you're getting realistic, dropping the 10-min charging in this case. If the light weight and folding portability is important, start out with say a pair of packs mounted so they're easy to swap out. Then after you've logged a few thousand miles, got all the other issues sorted, you'll ...

It definitely makes sense to be capable of using a tesla charge station if you have them, using some kind of converter down to a reasonable bike voltag...

Re: Hub motor on 240v DC ebike? Controller(MOSFETs), windings(phases)...

If we're gonna play silly buggers with lethal voltages of electricity, you REALLY gotta work hard to find a novel way to die. Assumptions - OP has said he wants around 3kwh of battery at 48-72 volts, totaling 3kw, that can be charged in 10 minutes, without massive chargers, and using off the shelf ...

Ride a folding bike with a 25kg+ battery? Nope! Ride a folding bike long distance? Nope! 10min charge (6C) can be achieved on LiCO cells - just look at the RC world. Not all foldable bikes are flimsy and feeble : https://i.redd.it/dgktsm2ohom31.jpg https://o.aolcdn.com/images/dims?resize=2000%2C200...
