What about the right side? I think allowing play on the right side only might put more stress on the axle.
Again on the Italian Jobike forum someone has put a thin sheet of metal inside there. For that purpose you can use the metal of a feeler gauge.

When you remove the snap rings and main gear from the drive side, you can push the axle out of the left side and removing the bearing should be no problem.....
Andrea_104KG has added the second bearing and has made a photo-report on the Italian Jobike forum

Re: Using power tool batteries (drill & string trimmer) to power a tsdz2 (48v motor)

I would like to "underdrive" a 48v motor. Is it possible? The rationale is to use batteries that I have on-hand (so the up-front project cost is low). I'd rather not buy a 36v motor and then later get the urge to upgrade to a 48v motor....... Besides the strange thought for using these batteries. I...

.... This page claims the tsdz2 includes a built-in speed sensor ,,,,,, That commercial page is problably a bad translation, They mean problably internal torque and cadence sensor. The speed sensor is external. The speedsensor is a reed contact, and very sensitive for right mounting of the magnet. ...

Does that mean that I can replace a fried 48V controller with a spare 36V one?
Yes. Besides the motor, the hardware is for all versions the same.
The power is controlled by the firmware, so you have to flash the right stock firmware or OSF.
