Re: Fork vibration with Mac hub motor

I switched from the KT controller to a Phaserunner, and now it's running smooth as silk. It would have been a lot easier to get a phaserunner for the Mac the first place. I'm pleased to say the fork judder is gone.

Re: GMAC vs MAC and Infineon vs Phaserunner

I'm running a Mac 10T front hub motor. I was previously using a KT sine wave controller (PSWPower 20A 6fet), and it resonated badly, which made the forks vibrate - it was terrible. Now I'm using a phaserunner, and it's buttery smooth and quiet. It's a massive improvement, and I should have spent the...

DT H 522 works well for tubeless on 36H. I'm using in 29", nice enough rim.

Re: Fork vibration with Mac hub motor

I'm tired of the vibration, it seems to be a known issue with the KT controller on some geared hubs. I wish I had known that in advance. It's not losing sync at high speed, the problem is at low to mid speed with low PAS. It is more tolerable when the controller is in speed control mode, but I want ...

Re: KT motor controllers -- Flexible OpenSource firmware for BMSBattery S/Kunteng KT motor controllers (0.25kW up to 5kW

It's a mecanical problem, you can try to increase/decrease the tension of the spokes, but that might just shift the resonance range... No, this is not a "mechanical" problem, it is absolutely exactly a software problem. Or, perhaps, hardware problems (signal filtering, interference) of the KT contr...

Re: Grin Base/PhaseRunner without Cycle Analyst

Would it be possible to use a PAS display that connects to the throttle input with the phaserunner, like this one from em3ev?
https://em3ev.com/shop/pas-controllerdisplay-sensor/

Are there any Arduino projects people have used for a similar purpose? The CA3 is so big and chunky.

No, this is not a "mechanical" problem, it is absolutely exactly a software problem. Or, perhaps, hardware problems (signal filtering, interference) of the KT controllers themselves. OK, but it can't be a software problem. I have a buck converter for supplying the head- and rearlights on my bike. E...

Re: Controllers compatible with Mac 10t @ 48V

Will the em3ev controllers allow for low power consumption but still able to pedal faster with some assistance, or do the 3 speed modes limit to a speed and stop assisting you if you pedal faster? I like being able to pedal to a higher speed, with some assistance from the motor, for longer range.

Re: Love the Baserunner, suggested improvements

Just to clarify one bad wolf, are your complaints about the baserunner mainly the dodgy wiring harness, not enough current output, lack of temp monitoring, and a hall sensor issue (is the phaserunner affected by this hall issue)? I like the look of the female plugs built into the phase runner, inste...

Re: Controllers compatible with Mac 10t @ 48V

Any other controller suggestions? I could try the em3ev infineon, but the PAS controller looks very crude. I want to be able to run a light level of assist at times, to save battery run time, and still be able to pedal up to a reasonable speed. The kt appealed due to the current/torque mode with PAS...

Re: KT motor controllers -- Flexible OpenSource firmware for BMSBattery S/Kunteng KT motor controllers (0.25kW up to 5kW

I'd like to get rid of the fork judder at medium speeds and medium PAS levels. sorry, in this case, the firmware can't help, as it's a known problem of the capacitors used in the KT controllers. The combination of the motorcoil inductance and the capacitance in the controller seems to lead to a res...

Re: KT motor controllers -- Flexible OpenSource firmware for BMSBattery S/Kunteng KT motor controllers (0.25kW up to 5kW

Has anyone used this firmware with a Mac 10T motor, and could they recommend motor settings that will work smoothly? I'm using a PSWpower 20A sinewave KT controller, and I'd like to get rid of the fork judder at medium speeds and medium PAS levels. I've found that the three valid forward phase wirin...

Re: Fork vibration with Mac hub motor

There shouldn't be any difference between bgy, gyb, and ybg with the halls and phases matching, they should all be the same firing order. It's odd, that's for sure.

Re: Fork vibration with Mac hub motor

I'm using a heavier KT controller with the MAC 12t. It's a 12 mosfet rated for 35a max. I have it limited to about 1300w (+-) using the parameters over concern for the battery. Plenty of grunt available with that for my purposes. It sounds like you have the color sequence figure out, but I'll show ...

Re: Can't get KT LCD5 headlight function to work

Your controller has a plug for a mechanical light switch, and probably isn't using the display's light control. I mounted a small switch into the back of my light. Why wouldn't a kt controller support a KT lcd? I don't get it, even the seller gave me a short list of KT lcd's I must have for this co...

Re: Controllers compatible with Mac 10t @ 48V

Phaserunner plays well with MAC10T. Below 200 watts it's silent. 200-500 watts it's audible about the same sound as knobby tread tire. 35 Amp limited on mine no problems other than cooking an Anderson connector ( motor phase). Any chance I could hear an audio clip of the Mac running with phase runn...

Controllers compatible with Mac 10t @ 48V

Which controllers are people using successfully (smoothly) with the current Mac 10t and a 48V battery? My PSWpower sine wave 20A controller is noisy with the Mac. I like the LCD8 display and PAS and torque simulation mode though. Not sure if it's worth trying the square wave version, or maybe modify...

Re: Fork vibration with Mac hub motor

That's pretty similar to what I get when the wheel is unloaded like that, but not at all what I get when riding. Unloaded like that, my guess is the controller senses the wheel is bumping into the max speed setting and shutting the power off until the wheel slows a hair, then hitting it with voltag...

Re: Fork vibration with Mac hub motor

It's a rigid surly cromoly fork. It would be good to hear an audio recording of a "normal" Mac hub motor running on a workstand, without background wind noise or freehub noise. Here's one clip I found with an BAC FOC controller, and it sounds to me like it has similar resonance to what I'm seeing......

Re: Fork vibration with Mac hub motor

On the 26" cargo bike, it's really wobbling the fork tips back and forth at 20-25kmhr while riding along. It smooths out after 30kmhr. I'd rather not have the vibration causing the wheel to come loose or the forks to fail.
