Re: My econo-e-bike

The skies were so clear today that I decided to ride to the Grizzly Peak lookout, next to the Lawrence Hall of Science above Berkeley. There's a panoramic view of the whole bay from there and the weather would be perfect. My destination: https://www.google.com/maps/@37.8804722,-122.2475306,3a,15y,23...

Re: Replaced Lyen with Grin controller now runs backwards

If it's running smoothly backwards (not drawing excessive current), you could try swapping two of the three phase wires with the new controller to get it to switch direction.

Re: Is it ok to use 60v on a 48v breaker?

I'm thinking of putting a circuit breaker in series with my main positive power wire just in case the controller and BMS went bang, it would be an additional way of saving the battery. I've found this (https://www.carbuilder.com/uk/200-amp-surface-mount-circuit-breaker) which offers the current I w...

Re: Tyres for commuter bike ? Schwalbe Marathon + disaster

The Schwalbe Crazy Bobs took a lot of effort to get the bead to lock into the rim, especially with the wire beads. The sidewalls are really stiff, so provide decent handling, but I crashed hard once when transitioning from dirt to pavement, when the tread didn't hook up and slid. It does OK on dirt,...

Looks fine. Does your battery have a switch? If not, the converter will always be draining a small amount of power.

Re: Do I really need a switch for the battery if I have a controller switch?

My 48v displays switch themselves off after a couple of minutes (KT3 and SW900) but I'm currently building a 96v bike and intend to use a CA display. Does this not have such a feature? I have a key switch on a twist throttle for the new set-up, just to get the bike functional, but I don't want to u...

Re: Shunt comparison pics

The shunt(s) are the black part(s) in you pics. Looking at your second and third pics, the 200A shunts are wider than the 150A, in order to pass more current. Oh I see. So the "bodies" of the shunt makes no difference? Pretty much. The additional contribution to the resistance from the lug sections...

Re: My econo-e-bike

I’ve been riding a lot lately, short rides, to keep from feeling cooped up and to help with sanity. Usually 15, sometimes 20 miles a day. Riding with the main pack + lipos, getting used to running the combo. Today I charged both up to about 95% and went out to get a better feel for how the batteries...

Not sure if this is considered normal, but I ordered one of these the other day after doing some quick research. Hard to beat for $25 if it turns out to be good: https://usa.banggood.com/ANENG-AN8008-True-RMS-Digital-Multimeter-AC-DC-Current-Voltage-Resistance-Frequency-Capacitance-Test-p-1157985.h...

You may need to leave it plugged in longer, maybe overnight, for it to balance. The highest vs lowest cells are pretty far out of whack.

Re: Temporary power loss at low speed under load - question.

When gunning the throttle from a dead stop when load is the greatest, it will accelerate 5 ft, temporarily lose power (LCD stays on), then resume acceleration. This likely rules out the battery BMS, since if that trips, you usually have to shut off/disconnect the battery to reset it. That said, you...

Re: 40 amp luna cycle controller specs? Shunt mod?

You can measure shunt impedance with a multimeter, and manage with try and error, to lower impedance to 3/4 of its actual value. Of course, your battery must be able to supply the extra Amps. Can you measure a shunt accurately thats already in a circuit? Does a normal multi-meter go that low for re...

Re: Mechanics in Seattle/Dropout Filing

Thanks a bunch, I'll do that. One full turn good to start with? I have a similar thing going on. Annoyance since it makes my bike lean a little while riding. I have an extra washer on the disc side for clearance, and I'm using a C washer on the other side to clear the freewheel, that I put there "t...

Re: X863-AA005 controller Hall plug has 6 wires?

I may have been imagining that. On checking hall sensor wires, would I need to separate hub? I'm guessing yes. So did you stop and turn the bike off, or did it stop while you were riding it? On the halls, start with the connector to make sure none of the wires are loose and maybe have some bad crim...

Re: X863-AA005 controller Hall plug has 6 wires?

I would start with checking the wiring. Riding around the block once doesn't seem like it would fry the motor, but might be enough for something to work its way loose. Was there any other symptoms right before it shut down? Can you check the continuity of the hall sensor wires from the controller to...

Off topic, but that cable routing in the pic is exceptionally clean. I see the frame even has a braze-on to accommodate the zip ties. :thumb:
