Re: Nucular electronics - complete kit for ev! [beta]

How well does it work? Is it noticeably better over the stock BT controller? I have no experience with stock controller. I ran mine with PV 12fet (with some issues). Got about a year with alfine 8 speed igh at 70A bat. After upgrade to nuc12fet, igh gave up after a month. Next igh lasted another mo...

Re: cyclone running

I guess it was a sinewave controller, which are sensitive to c3k motor "ghost hall signal" issue, discussed already a while back.
Either generic trap controller or nucular (which filters out those false signals) runs fine.

Re: cyclone running

I'd say it's either controller or BMS issue. No info on either one, so cannot help.
Nothing wrong with motor though.

Re: Bearing upgrades on cyclone 3000? worth it?

Sorry to revive an old thread ... The OP had the following bearings: 6001RS x3 12 x 28 x 8 planets 6004RS x2 20 x 42 x 12 gearbox shaft to output freewheel 6003RS 17 x 35 x 10 6201RS 12 x 32 x 10 rear cover, motor bearing I'm left wondering where the 6003 goes? I'm really trying to find out what di...

Re: Non EV LED Lighting PSU Question

I just checked the DRO manufacturers website. All their models accept 15-24VDC ±10%

So 15-24VDC PSU that has input range around 400VAC would do. You could use MR16 socket "halogen replacement" LED bulbs off it as well without problems as long PSU power rating is up to it.

It is 240 vac input
It's the DRO's power supply that has 240VAC input. DRO itself is most probably either 5 or 12VDC in. That's the DRO's PSU output that counts.

Re: Non EV LED Lighting PSU Question

What is the DRO input voltage? Maybe you can switch transformer to one that accepts 300-500VAC.
If it's 12VDC (or close) then you could run your lights off it as well, assuming it's power output is enough.
Here's selection of DIN rail mountable that should work. Just pick right voltage/power.

1) Is there a good current based alternative to stock controller? stock controller controls speed rather than current.
Nucular.

12F if you're bold and do like changing your bicycle drivetrain components.
6F is good enough to destroy weaker links and get maintenance cycle low :D

Anyone know what the spacer width is on the drive side?
Those two 10mm spacers you have there in the right blue bowl.
Or, upper left corner on installation hardware picture.

Re: Cyclone 3kW ===> 5kW????

So to visualize it, you remove both halves(gearbox, side cover) of the motor shell and keep only the motor housing metal ring around the stator? Then you put a 80mm pipe through it and bathe it in the potting? Yes but no bathing but pour from top (2 times, 1st only a little), then later when cured,...

Re: Cyclone 3kW ===> 5kW????

Unfortunately no measurements. But similar rides without potting meant motor was too hot to keep hand on it, which is >60C. No such problem after potting, even after a hard ride.
Right now I cant attach thermal image of motor after average commute from work, will do later.

Re: Cyclone 3kW ===> 5kW????

Do you have a guide how to do that? Google just shows ads for companies. Get potting polyurethane from electronics component store. I got mine from farnell. Just make sure it's heat conducting one. Heat conducting epoxies have better transfer properties but personally I am not sure it is good to us...

Re: Cyclone 3kW ===> 5kW????

I would suggest potting motor windings with heat conducting polyurethane and buying Nucular 12F controller.
Cyclone 3K @ 60A and 55-60 km/h cont. for 20-25 km in city without motor getting hot. 80A bat / 170A ph when needed.

Two rotors are clearly visible and at 1:05 you can see left caliper directly on top of rotor. Also it's visible...

Re: Bearing upgrades on cyclone 3000? worth it?

Besides bearings, I'd suggest replacing halls and phase wires, install temp sensor and when that all done and double-checked, casting motor windings with thermal polyurethane - to improve thermal path from windings to outer shell.

Re: Power PCB for Lebowski Controller to be combined with Bobc's processor board

A big heads up to anyone using BobC's board and following the build instructions, there is a typographical error where it is suggested that the board can be tested by applying battery voltage to the "bat" pin which is pin 14 on the board. If you do that you will fry the DSPIC and depending on the v...
