Re: Improving Sunko 709A (220V) Current capabilities

I had the same problem using one of the 12 volt welders. When I upgraded the probe cables from 8 gauge copper clad to 6 gauge pure copper welding cable it was a huge improvement. No more hot cables to hold, with copper clad I was barely doing a few welds before they got too hot to hold. In the lowe...

Improving Sunko 709A (220V) Current capabilities

I've watched a video on how to improve a Sunko spot welder. Found some premade spot welding tips for £15 and made an upgrade. J2noz_7PGsA Works like a charm. If you have the tools, patience and find the original pen lacking in performance this might be for you. Unfortunately I don't have a clamp met...

Re: APL's DIY axial-flux motor

I ordered out some axle aluminum, so at least I can get going on that. Hopefully I can do a better job this time and get this thing to spin straight. I think the hardest part of turning the axel is to get the bearing ID to fit just right, and wind up with somewhat of a press fit. Other than that, I...

Re: Li-ion cells cycle ageing

Thank you for your thoughts, they are helping me to assort my own. I don´t want to go to 1 000 cycles, my idea was to finish somewhere at 600 – 700 cycles. Another testing fixture arrived this week, so from Friday is 30Q already running on fifth channel at the same parameters. MJ1 will start next w...

Re: Physical damage to the cell, happy I'm not on fire

I had something similar happen, but the cells aren't physically damaged that I can see (battery was padded), but the twisting force cracked some of the heat shrink on the cells. Any suggestions? https://imgur.com/a/VfJzdd5 Do I have to buy a spot welder to fix this "safely"? If heat shrink is damag...

Re: Physical damage to the cell, happy I'm not on fire

I suspect you "dodged the bullet" on that one. specifically about 70 rounds of ammo in your backpack. Suppose you bumped your head and were a little dazed, could you have gotten the backpack off quickly enough? Buy a new cell and fix the battery but please find a better way to protect it. Maybe if ...

Pictures of internals below I could never find the time to build a hard casing for my 14s triangular battery, so just had it in my backpack for the time being. Re: Building 13S17P battery, need some criticism on layout

The cell arrangement looks good. With that big of a battery pack and chemistry you could easily push 80 to 90 Amps. Are you planning on using a BMS? The leftover area limits the size of your controller and BMS. I assume you’ve taken that into account. If you ever want to upgrade to a more powerful ...

Building 13S17P battery, need some criticism on layout

I'm planing on retiring by old 13S battery and replacing it with 13S17P of LG M29 cells. For now the pack will only be pulling 25A, maybe some day I will look into pushing 40A if range won't suffer much. Well above what the cells can do, but that's just half the story. The limiting factor is my layo...

Does it sound like GPU coil whine? If yes it's probably your inductors and there is little you can do about it apart replacing them. It doesn't affect the work of the BMS.

I'm having trouble with reading CAN data after plugging in my battery. The charger stops sending CAN data in CV state. When battery charging switches to CC the data starts appearing. Electrically everything works, but I can't display the data on the screen for the CV period.

Re: Series connection Charges/Discharges quicker

Could be anything that reduces the capacity of the group, so either of those is possible. Is also possible that the channel on the BMS has a balancing shunt stuck "on" so it's always draining that group. This can be tested by measuring voltage across teh shunt resistors. Any resistor with a voltae ...

I have a 13s9p battery. One of the series connection get's easily out of balance. Anyone know what the values mean?
Your series voltage is not very uniform. Mine is with in 0.03V and I get 93 for Voltage uniformity.
Check yours in Battery state/ Battery Voltage.

Works with 709A. Mine required all pulses and the knob at 6-7. Don't forget that you get higher power right at the machine. So if the hand-held tool doesn't have enough ''chooch'', just weld with the tips at the front of the machine. Thanks for your reply and suggestion. Please advise the thickness...

Voltage reading are spot on, but current is 33% higher then measured(from 4-25A). I'm guessing it's a matter of adjusting the resistor value in the software
