Re: Kawasaki Z125 build

Awesome build, very clean. Just a few remarks and suggestions, if I may: -You should put a second nut on your motor axis, to secure the first one. If it gets loose because of vibrations then you'll ruin your motor. -150A seems quite weak since you're using a 8KW motor. I dont know if your battery an...

Re: Yamaha FZR-8000 Genesis

I’m sure my swing arm is different to yours but as mine was box section steel I was able to design a pair of adapter plates that slotted into the box section and had the axle cut out for the QS Motor machined into them. I designed them in CAD and then had them made up by a machine shop in 6061 Alum...

Re: Freewheel on motor vs freewheel on wheel.

Aside from the difference in noise (the motor freewheel is fairly silent), is there any difference between having the freewheel on the motor vs on the wheel? Any considerations as far as torque, speed, known issues...? Nope, that should be exactly the same. As to why exactly this thing would need a...

Re: Resources for building the Lebowski open-source motor controller in 2020?

Really want to give this DIY controller a try, but I'm not sure I have the skills and knowledge to do so. I think it really misses some kind of easy to follow tutorial to at least really understand how to build the thing. I do understand the general principle of how all the parts should work, but th...

Re: BMS's in parallel

1. If I have three 5S BMS in parallel will they conflict with each other? My understanding is parallel cells balance themselves out and the BMS is there to support the series cells, so my inclination is to think that the three in parallel will work?? Yes, it will work. As amberwolf explained, just ...

Re: BMS chip getting very hot

Can't really help you on the root cause of your issue, if these two chips get hot there is probably a good reason for that but it's hard to guess since there is no visual damage on your picture. In any case, I'm not sure it is wise to try and fix it, if it got hot due to some defective component or ...

Yeah, Id love to consider these, have you got a spec sheet for the ones you've chosen? Weirdly enough I might actually know a supply of these here in NZ. Here you go: https://formula-hybrid.org/wp-content/uploads/A123_AMP20_battery_Design_guide.pdf Also some interesting threads on the forum: https:...

Re: Electric Race Motorbike for NZ Bucket Class

Motor I've looked at a few motors and the QS273 V3 70H looks like it would definitely be up to the task. I wanted to gauge ES for some help here though, there are a few people saying they are using motors rated for less power to get 15+kW, which if it works is fantastic. Are there other motors that...

Re: Electric Race Motorbike for NZ Bucket Class

LiPo would get the most performance, that's for sure. But they are a bit difficult to maintain and they also are a bit expensive. What you need here is some cells capable of a high discharge rate without too much sagging. I know what I'm going to say might be a bit controversial but I'd recommend yo...

Interesting. I'd love to know what you think once you are riding it. Did you think of mounting the motor to the swingarm only so it moves with the wheel? I thought about the very same thing while watching the pictures too :) Wonder how this would behave, pretty sure it would be nice since it would ...

I can't recommend doing it this way to anybody else,.. to toxic,
Can't you just cut the magnets immerged in a bucket of water?
It's pretty easy to do with a Dremel flexible attachment, this way you won't heat the magnets and you wont get any dust.

Well I don't know about the prices where you live, but here in China it seems like I can find that for around 50 USD for one square meter in 10mm thickness.
That's not cheap but it's not completely insane, I'll probably need half of that.

The cores for this motor are designed, but the problem I'm having right now is that this DSM program I'm using only exports in STL, which is a 3D printer format. CNC machines use 'solid' format's like STEP, and IGES. S I don't understand, aren't you using Fusion 360? It can export in STEP, no probl...

Re: Power Loss on New eMotorcycle

The fans push a significant amount of cooling and they are dead silent. I'll monitor the setup and if they ultimately don't provide value I can try water cooling. Up to you , but if you want the fans to be useful, at least make them blow towards the bottom plate of the aluminum casing, that's where...

I have been thinking about it though. (end windings) This is one half baked idea I've been trying to work out,..sort of a radiator style core. End turns get reduced, and radial turns are doubled. I'm not sure how the magnetics would wind up being yet, and I'm probably missing something major, but I...

Re: APL's DIY axial-flux motor

Maybe you could consider using screws made of FR4 material (the kind of plastic used for electronic boards). They will resist the heat cycles and this is a very tough plastic with very high insulation characteristics. I think it might work, but can't be really sure, there are lots of forces involved...

Re: Doesn't make sense.. does my battery broken?33mΩ too much ir??

There is alot more than just the V=IR of battery's internal resistance. Alot more. You pay attention to one "Law" like it matters when you ignore (10) other "laws"... No you didnt invent the math, you just didnt use it to its complete ability. Okay, maybe. I'd just appreciate for you to explain, fo...
