Re: APL's DIY axial-flux motor

Not sure if this would be accurate since it's possible that the picture doesn't make things look like they should, but the rotor seems relatively straight while the stator looks crooked... asadfad.png My vote would go to a combination of option 1 and option 2, using one big washer on each side while...

Re: APL's DIY axial-flux motor

-The attraction is going to cancel out nicely only when dead centered and that's never quite going to be the case, the force from the side that's a tiny bit closer will quickly dominate and it will get pulled in until contacting at a guess. Yeah of course it wouldn't be cancelled entirely, but the ...

Re: APL's DIY axial-flux motor

Well that's bad news. But there's something I'm not sure to understand: the stator is pulled towards the rotor plate by the magnet, but there are two rotor plates, one on each side. So in theory they should both cancel each other's effect, at least most part of it. So how come it doesn't? Did you en...

Re: APL's DIY axial-flux motor

Overall, it's going to work, and I still have the option of re-winding later. We'll stay on course in the interest of getting this thing to spin! I'm not even sure I can put enough power into it to justify 14 awg. yet, so that remains to be seen. The new battery pack might be good for 1500 watts, b...

Re: APL's DIY axial-flux motor

I still think you should consider using thinner paralleled wires, that would make your life much easier and leave you more possibilities to experiment with. But nice job anyways, can't wait to see it finished

Re: Ninja 250 "Clone" Made in China

It's been a while, but finally some updates: I managed to finish my battery box, yay! First thing was to install the insulating aerogel sheet. This thing is very easy to cut with a knife, but it makes a big mess and lots of dust. So, I had this idea of using glue spray all over it. Firt it helped in...

Re: 1979 Yamaha XS750 conversion.

I had considered using a throttle setup like that, but I have (possibly unfounded?) reliability concerns because the stock throttle is not dual cable. These cable throttles are real nice, never had any issue with them, you can go for it. Feeling is great too. I suggest you to use one for the variab...

Re: APL's DIY axial-flux motor

If you can get the desired number of turns with a single strand then that tends to be the easiest to build and the coils will have more mechanical strength. Never tried it myself, but are you sure? It seems a bit counter intuitive, I would have thought that it would be much harder to bend a thick w...

Unfortunately i can't find a hub motor in EU that can beat the price of a middrive kit i found that includes a 50a controller.
50A is quite weak.
It won't be thrilling performance

What's your budget for this build?

Re: I designed a +200A powerstage with 200V MOSFETs

Hi, First, kudos on that great work, seems well done! I'm not sure to understand what's going on there exactly: that's a power stage that is separated from the actual brains, meaning you can plug any kind of brain you want to control the gate drivers, which, by extension, control the mosfets? Someth...

Any ideas? I've tried about everything I can think of. Never had this problem, but I never tried to stop the calibration process either. Controllers really don't like to be messed with whenever they are doing some stuff like calibration, saving or actively communicating. The first thing I'd tried w...

Re: Motor for 18ft Electric boat

Hi, I'm not sure what is exactly the objective for your project. What is this boat intended use? I'd guess low speed cruising in the canals? Also, why do you seem to care so much about efficiency? Since your budget seems to be relatively low, I would try to save money on the powertrain as much as po...

Great build thread! Little tips for reworking a 3Dprint: -Get a blowtorch and heat the blade of an exacto knife, it will cut the plastic like butter. You probably could have reworked your part like that instead of printing a new version (cuz looks won't matter if you carbon wrap it later anyways, wh...

A hub motor is my preference, but a middrive is cheaper. I'm a bit surprized by this, are you sure? What motors did you compare? If you have all the necessary tools and know how to use them then it's a very good start. Next important point would be for you to figure out a ballpark figure of the bud...

I guess i'm more of a kick at the start guy, plus i have a lot of start and stop to do everyday, so i'll probably go with the Kelly, my motor is rated for 40Amps, i don't think i can use the difference between the two controllers, can i? Don't bother with the motor rating, the Niu is a popular scoo...

I just had an other look at the sceenshots posted earlier, and I found something that seems weird to me: Current limiting voltages and Over voltages seem very, very low. Current limiting voltage is set up at 52 Over voltage is set up at 77, which sounds insanely low to me That could explain the issu...

Re: Sabvoton 7260 strange throttle Control, pleas help

That's very weird, can't think of anything that would cause this. Maybe two things to try: -If you have a QS motor with a second set of hall sensors, then try using the other hall sensor plug. -Try to disconnect everything from your machine except for the absolutely necessary ones (throttle, phase, ...

I won't speak of theoretical values here but based on my actual experience and experience of my friends, it is possible to do 100km in one charge with a 72V 20Ah lead acid battery set up. Sorry to say it, but that's not really the nost appropriate frame to do an electric conversion, it will make things more complicated than you original plan to use a scooter. You're still using the 3000w QS? Yep Which controller did you stick with? As stated above, Sabvoton (72200), 210Amps current draw from battery, 510Amps current max per phase. And you get 16kw peaks and acceleration somewhere between a 250cc and a 400cc? Yep. Note that it's not motoGP style 400cc bi...
