Re: (solved) (Tongsheng) Left crank arm needs to be ~3mm longer than the right <= false

I've ridden that particular bike without assist over a hundred km, hill climbs included... It's how I gear down on the weekends to ride with less experienced riders and friends who don't have assist. Sometimes I even ride my pure acoustic bike, but it's not quite as nice. No argument on the road cyc...

Re: (solved) (Tongsheng) Left crank arm needs to be ~3mm longer than the right <= false

Careful how you mince my words, what I was trying to highlight was the fact I have no problem enjoying that 50 pound fatbike even without assist, with those "kid cranks". Ditch the graph too, if you're using an ebike or modern groupsets etc (although sadly, you won't regularly find short crank optio...

Re: (Tongsheng) Left crank arm must be ~3mm longer than the right

If your just spinning along and never need to add much torque, 165mm could work well as long as your not needing to pedal home over hills with a heavy dead battery or crapped out motor -controller fail. This is complete nonsense! I ride a 50 pound fat bike just fine with 152mm cranks, with no batte...

Re: Tongsheng crank arms are for riders of height 5'9" - where can we get smaller cranks?

Crank length according to rider height is a sham! (except with really tall riders, sure. Kinematic/ergonomics and what have you) The truth is, shorter cranks are simply better, on assisted bikes especially, and I would recommend switching all your bikes to cranks between 150-160mm length. Miranda co...

Re: Bafang M500/M600 thread

Sorry, by Integrated I mean specifically, electronically and software integrated. Nothing to do with the battery mechanically fitting into the frame, most batteries are frame-integrated from ebike OEMs (even the most common reention styles). I'm aware of how BMS's play into the typical ebike pack, m...

Re: Bafang M500/M600 thread

Battery compatibility, as in, the inability to use any battery off the shelf with the M600... it needs to be a CANBUS-integrated pack, communicating with the M600 control, at least last I heard? Did Frey figure out a workaround then? Did those empty batt cases come with BMS in em? Might explain how ...

Re: Bafang M500/M600 thread

Damn, this thread continues to bum me out about the M600, it seems like mechanically it has a lot of potential.. And has been let down severely with lack of programming access, lack of battery compatibility, and a bunch of stupid decisions even extending to the motor itself (Bafang-unique crank spli...

Re: 1.7kg 1000w mid drive

Heat dissipation and deflection is fairly good on Glass Reinforced Nylon (in molded parts anyway), which is why it's used in so many engine components... It can handle under-the-hood temperatures, should be fine for an electric motor casing. Of course, if it's 3D printed, this will change a bit. The...

Unlikely it's compatible in any way, shape or form without some re-fabbing.

A CAD model of the M600 would help your cause greatly!

Re: Bafang M500/M600 thread

No, you cannot (rather, should not) cut+weld a bike crank, it will be seriously weakened metalurgically. Cranks are typically forged heat treated for max strength for their size and shape, welding will take lots of that strength away (leading to bending and eventual failure around the weld from ride...

Also awesome pics and video of m600 internals. Kudos!

Re: 2019 Motor Simulator, Mid-drives and other updates

How about gas forming once the motor reaches boiling temps ? Well that's steam, and it's powerful stuff, and probably do a number on the internals... I'm also leaning towards IN4's deduction, that it will not end will having water coolant circulating inside an electric motor... watercooling motors ...

Interesting experiment. But doesn't distilled water act like a super oxidant ? Aren't you worried about corrosion ?
I think you mean de-ionized water...

Distilled water is the correct choice for a soluble coolant. the MoCool he's added provides rust inhibition, among other important attributes.

Re: Need a bombproof rear-hub that can handle 2500 watts

Full-weight Onyx hub with steel Hyperglide driver is what I would use (and I do!). Combine that with the XG-899 8 speed SRAM cassette, and I don't think you will have any more problems. Will of course need to pair with the appropriate RD and shifter, and either use their recommended chain or somethi...

Re: Bafang ultra upgrade to 2500watt

There aren't any nylon gears, unless you have a very early version of the Ultra motor. Mechanically the motor is completely capable of reliable operation at 2500W, with good riding habits, avoiding high instantaneous torque load on the sprag/one way bearing in the middle of the gear train (heavy thr...

I've got the short Miranda cranks (8mm offset) as well and they are a huge improvement. Better stance less Q-factor, better ground clearance, must have if your frame/heels will clear appropriately.

I think a lot of customers are going to very happy with the 2.2kW Excess controller... Agreed, particularly if they deliver strong on the Finesse points alongside the bump in power levels. 750W geared fat hub in wheel, with controller/display etc

Selling basically a complete ebike kit, swapped off one of my bikes (big upgrade) LAX Fat hub, 170-190mm OLD fit, 750W nominal rated geared hub. This is the same motor as the Bafang G60, without their branding, internally and externally identical for all intents and purposes. It takes a screw-on fre...

Re: Bafang ultra max 2.2kw EXCESS controller

Last I checked with them, they are available, you'll have to send your motor to them (or buy one from them with the controller installed). Seems they are individually calibrated to each motor... I decided not to bother for now, due to the expense of it, in addition to needing a more powerful battery...

Re: Custom built, self made ebike frame project

Good work on the frame, lots of steps very well done. I was a bit concerned about the small upper shock mount plates and apparent lack of bushings/load bearing hardware of appropriate size, but I'm sure you've considered all of that. Also excellent work on the heat-treat, that's an important step fo...

What else would you like to see about it? It was very easy to build, I bought a cheap replacement mech brake lever w/ electric cutout from Biktrix, then removed the stock lever, installed a 3D printed one (onyx+fiberglass), added a spring and a machined screw where the cable tension nut would go, an...

The lever is custom made 1.5 finger size, sits below the front brake lever in a very c...
