Re: Trek report on becoming more visible (for electric velomobile)

I changed the head lights to motorcycle lights on bars attached below the rear view mirrors. And installed turn signals on the ends of the bars. Not too aerodynamic but quite visible. The only problem is that they are really bright.

Wheel bearing help please

it is a Novatec wheel with "K09121200001" on it. Does anyone know what bearings to use? There are no numbers printed on the race or hub. Oh no, I just realized that the hub is most likely a custom build for the bike because it is a tadpole and only supported on one side. I asked the bike manufacture...

Re: Ok, I bent the new rim... Looking for a stronger rim.

The rim was fixed. It wobbles a little but it is not noticeable when riding.
Thanks for the suggestions.
The thresholds are everywhere now. 45 degrees seems to be the best angle, that and low speed works OK for me.

Re: Trek report on becoming more visible (for electric velomobile)

Updates: The lights are all working. Drivers are generally staying far away. A police officer shouted over her PA system that the lights could cause "seizures, you hear?". Since the light's blink-pattern is very adjustable, they are no longer in a strobe flashing pattern but a slow blink. And, now I...

What do you think of Organic Transit?

I stopped by their old factory several years ago. I was impressed with the owner and staff. The ELF looked amazing. I had already taken a test ride on one owned by a military doctor. It seemed reasonable enough, easy to pedal and steer and fairly decent on a rough driveway. I bought one second hand ...

Charger for Pedego

Anybody know what kind of charger works for Pedego bikes. I know someone who won a Pedego in a raffle and he has no idea about electric bikes. Apparently, the bike has become separated from the charger. Any useful information?

Re: Trek report on becoming more visible (for electric velomobile)

Amberwolf, That is a very cool idea using ultraviolet LEDs to make fluorescent colors light up at night. My one worry about that is that ultraviolet light causes eye damage. One thing I've noticed, well one of many things, is that even the dim green indicator light on my power control panel causes a...

Re: Trek report on becoming more visible (for electric velomobile)

First of all, thank you everyone for your interesting, thought-provoking, and educational comments. I might just get a random-variable-rate chasing relay to put on the two lights. As far as colors are concerned the National Institute of Standards and Technology found that the safety green was the ea...

Trek report on becoming more visible (for electric velomobile)

Trek claims that a rider becomes 80% more visible when they highlight their feet and knees. (That seems almost obvious to me but I never thought of it before.) Of course this is not possible when riding a velomobile. I'm thinking about adding two lights to the back of my velomobile (in addition to, ...

Ok, I bent the new rim... Looking for a stronger rim.

Bought a BMX rim. The LBS cut some spokes for the motor. I built the wheel. Rode for months. Last night I hit the 1.5 inch high threshold between a road and a driveway at a small angle and bent the rim. I really hate those thresholds because I've had several pinch flats from them-hence the st...

Re: Vendor recommendation wanted for ebike parts

Thanks for the answers! As to your question: Why are you trying to use a Kelly Controller with a Mac 12 T Motor ? I'm reusing the motor and controller from the old velomobile. The manufacturer didn't install a precharge resistor. The contactor is a 14v, which is working but worries me. They also did...

Vendor recommendation wanted for ebike parts

Old guy here still working as an engineer, who spent too much for a e-velomobile which breaks every 40 miles or so. My commute is either 18 miles of reasonable roads or 16 miles with some narrow winding parts. I'm building a velomobile ebike and am running out of time and money. Where can I find a g...

**Answered** Missing Link to an open source vehicle answered

Last week there was a link in a post (on ES?) to a group which is talking deposits for an open source vehicle. After looking through my history, and searching, I am unable to find it. The group is in Spain. The vehicle looks a lot like the ELF without the curved transitions between the sides and roo...
