Re: 48v lto design

I've decided that I'm going to get LTO cells regardless for testing custom circuits, and running the bike will be secondary. The consensus seems to be that LTO is bad for EV, but not how bad. By spec, it looks like a 8-30% drop in energy storage from LFP counterparts (pouch vs 'prismatic' vs cylindr...

Re: 48v lto design

pretty sure I could make a worse 48V battery with sla, so I don't see where all the hate is coming from. I get that you all go for more power and more distance and minimizing the risk of decay or fire is "boring", but come on. The worst-case scenario for a lto pack is repurposing it. A low energy de...

Re: 48v lto design

anything would be better than the first battery I made. A battery made from recycled cells took ages to build and had horrible capacity. It died way too fast, so I want to go for something that won't die and won't keep me on my toes. I'm also looking at pouch cells for higher density, but the best I...

48v lto design

I currently have a 48V 21A motor/controller kit from 5 years ago, mounted to a mongoose ledge 2.1 mountain bike. I am in the process of replacing the brakes, tubes, tires, and chain. I built my previous battery pack from recycled cells. I tossed that battery a while ago. I've since graduated college...

Re: ebike refurb

The other alternative is that LTO is now a much cheaper technology. Same fire resistance as LiFePo4, comparable energy density, but power density blows LiFePo4 out of the water, as does cycle and shelf life. (10,000 to 30,000 cycles, 30 years plus). I'm intrigued. Early research with specs listed b...

ebike refurb

hi guys. I referenced this site years ago to build a battery to match a 1kW Chinese hub kit on a cheap steel frame mountain bike. It hits a comfortable 30mph. I'm in a new area (hilly, cold, rough roads). I am considering upgrading to a more powerful setup to deal with steeper hills and higher speed...

Re: Post Your Electric Longboard or Electric Mountainboard B

I have to make sure that the build isn't too expensive and the lipo are far from rainwater. Yes, the design I have in mind would be complicated to make with aluminum (especially with few tools on hand).

Weather is my enemy here in fl.

Re: weatherproofing

The hall sensors or connectors weren't working, so I disconnected the hall connector. Pas wasn't working either. I know electrical tape isn't exactly waterproofing, but it will have to do until I have time to replace or modify parts. If there are holes in the motor, wouldn't it let water in? I only ...

weatherproofing

Short story: College campus, bike racks, cheap ebike kit from an ebay seller. I need to ensure my bike won't be ruined by the elements.

What do I do to keep my bike in shape if it's outside pretty much 24/7? What maintenance is involved?

Re: Homemade Battery Packs

lol a lot of cells. Looks like it's for a go-kart. a car mod would take more amps than laptop cells could handle for long periods. 1c at a constant rate will generate heat for those cells, especially in the middle, where there's no airflow. what are you cooling them with?

Re: conversion insurance

Thanks, I can keep track of that. I put a lot of time into the battery and various additional parts, so the bike as a whole is worth over twice than what I paid in total. An evaluation would be better than receipts

Re: Homemade Battery Packs

most, if not all, balance circuits discharge the cells with a higher voltage to equalize. It gives every cell the voltage of the lowest cell, which is good if you're not planning on paying attention to each cell's voltage, but maintenance requires a periodical check to see that it's doing it's job.

Re: florida ebike law

These links are why I ask. So what does riding an ebike legally require above 20mph? A driver's license? Lights? Turn signals? A license plate?

florida ebike law

I'm trying to figure out the rules of ebikes in fl. So far, I've got this:

No use of motor on sidewalks, license required, but then it's a "motor vehicle" if it can go over 20mph on road?

The one finished battery seems to have taken 24ah. Two of those will make 48ah. I can't test my other, unfinished pack yet. I'm trying to sell the first one for fresh supplies. I now have working testing methods, so doing another will be a piece of cake. Used laptop cells from dead oem packs only. G...

My bad. Two 6s14p batteries, running at either 12s14p or 6s28p.

I charged it during the day, and the charger says it took over 24ah.
