Why has progress stalled?

I have to vent a bit here. In 2013 I built my first bbs02 bike. I've been in and out of the hobby over the last couple years, with a total of 5 ebikes and 2 ekayak prototypes. How is it 2019 and there has been virtually no meaningful progress? In 2013 I imagined we would have some amazing mid-drives...

Re: Luna charger / battery issue

Could be a bad parallel group racing to over voltage before the other groups. To test for this without cutting it open, If you just let it sit on the charger for a day or two it should slowly top balance and the voltage will slowly increase and the charger will cycle on for a few minutes every once ...

Re: AliExpress battery sellers ?

On the cheap, unit pack power. On Aliexpress, more than a dozen successes? UPP has been good to me as well. I ordered from them directly to build me a custom 30ah 52v pack with 18650B cells (what a fantastic affordable cell for high capacity applications!). The prices were very reasonable, even wit...

But anyway, I apologize for bringing this up here and now, I was just in a bad mood at the time. If I were in a neutral state I wouldn't even bother to comment on it, my efforts are ultimately ineffectual. It's better for me to just enjoy what we have while we have it and not bother being stressed a...

So for you the issue is not the criminal behavior by riders of illegal emotorcycles, but their posting of video documenting their violations? That's an interesting viewpoint....... As long as lawbreakers are only seen in realtime by the folks that they live among and are not subject to a Google sea...

Which videos are you referring to? Hooning? The one on the Las Vegas strip is the one that got to me the most. It wasn't too bad at first, but it quickly got very busy. I felt the same way at one time, but I've come to realize that particular ship sailed a long time ago. Anyone who wants can find h...

Consider no BMS and a Thunder Power RC TP1430C, if you can find one.

Just cut it open please. Post pics. I am dealing with one of their suppliers so I am curious.

This kind of stuff scares me away from thoughts of reselling.

Re: <$2.50 18650s? Cheapest cells per Wh?

Yeah, but not for cost per wh! They are best for other things like energy or power density, but not cost. Although they are dropping price nicely :) I think once you add your time to build the battery pack the cost of the cell is much smaller than your time. I would want the most miles. Also, If yo...

Re: Volocopter

Based on the close up in the video the props are fixed pitch, so autorotation is impossible. Even if they were adjustable pitch, the strategy to manage the individual props and create stability would be intimidating to create (possible but challenging).

Re: 30 AMP BBS02?

Are you using a throttle at all? I can't imagine that the BBSHD is less than 1 mph faster on full throttle. With PAS, I could see it being limited to the same-ish speeds. Yes full throttle nonstop for many miles in the gear that puts the motor just barely at max amps. I don't know whats so unbeliev...

Re: 30 AMP BBS02?

Sadly this has made me a little less excited about my bbshd on the way, apparently I already know what to expect. Why would that be? The motor is quite different, down to the stator/copper. The old BBSxx had troubles at 750W continuous and this BBSHD (from all accounts so far) seems to be quite cap...

Re: Bafang BBSHD, 1000W, 68mm-120mm BB

Anybody else find that there is a relatively narrow RPM range where the motor vibrates (almost feels like a grinding) quite hard. It happens at high load at or near max amps just around the RPM range where the amps start to fall off as the motor winds out. It's actually quite annoying on my feet. My...

I don't know if I was clear earlier, I didn't add solder, I got a very early controller that was already soldered by Bafang. You could theoretically try hunting one down.

Re: Temperature Sensor on BBSHD

In many ways I feel a watt meter is your best friend to protect your motor. If you train yourself to downshift to the lowest gear that is still at max amps for a given speed, you eventually train yourself to always be in the optimum gear. Then wait until the amps start to drop before you shift into ...

Don't grease your BBSxx 1-way clutch!?

My bbs02 on my cargo bike started grinding on the inside without turning the gear when the rear was in a high gear (13t). I falsely assumed the nylon gear was starting to wear out, in retrospect that would be an all or nothing condition, not a high torque slipping. When I took apart the motor I disc...

I've seen it randomly implied that this was possible throughout the forum but no actual explanation about it.

Re: Charge batteries only to 80% = 4x more cycles?

Subjectively, from using 100s of batteries for RC planes, bringing the batteries down to 90-100% DoD is far more damaging and cycle reducing than charging the battery to 100% SoC.

I would say that only discharging the battery to 20% SoC (80% DoD) will give you 4x more cycles, not the other way round.

Re: Bafang BBSHD, 1000W, 68mm-120mm BB

Shifting with the BBSHD is not difficult. If you stop pedaling, or pedal backward the PAS drops out and the motor cuts power and begins to spin down. There is plenty of momentum in the motor to shift at this time. You can always depress the throttle slightly. This causes the throttle to take over a...
