Re: Lebowski's motor controller IC, schematic & setup, new v2.A1

VW Golf GTE hybrid inverter would be appropriate for you i belive. It has 600A power stage and 2kW DCDC 14V converter.
Its rather small and compact too.
I just need to get my hands on one to make an interface board for Lebowski.

Re: Lebowski's motor controller IC, schematic & setup, new v2.A1

Sorry, i didnt see your power requirement. Volt inverter is like 15kg and 300cm x 20cm x 15cm box. It may be overkill in price also, i saw everything from $150 to $400 online. But for 100kW powersection it is not too much. You can also get Toyota Yaris inverter G9200-52010 which is smaller and light...

Re: Lebowski's motor controller IC, schematic & setup, new v2.A1

thanks--i don't have any yet to open up; it's just a hypothetical. had to verify the potential for the idea first, then i have to find a pair someone (or a couple of someones) is willing to let go for next to nothing (so i can afford the project). (there's a pair in the for sale section i'd actuall...

Re: Ampera/Volt inverter with Lebowski brain

Tnx Arlo i really need to hear this from someone with experience with PMSM. I only done this with ACIM and however you rev that motor is a piece of iron if you turn off excitation. The way you are saying it i identified couple of hazards. 1. DC contactor dropout when in FW region. This would blow my...

Re: Ampera/Volt inverter with Lebowski brain

Lebowski a question if you please. What would functionally happen inside controler if i pressed reset button while motor would turn at 8000RPM? I consider this rather high hazard because i would have a battery of 380Vdc nominal and motor backEMF voltage will be higher at that RPM. To protect against...

Re: Ampera/Volt inverter with Lebowski brain

Certainly, Leaf motor is 8 pole design. I purchased 8 pole encoder simulation, so the signal is correct. I can scope signals but only on the inverter side. They are connected inside motor. Cable shield is connected to car GND on the inverter side. Do you think the problem is the sensor? Would differ...

Re: Ampera/Volt inverter with Lebowski brain

Current sensor offsets are some -/+13pt
Hall sensors are at value 6 in general. I cant get them to be 7. And RLS sensor was set to 0 position using current through 2 adjacent phases as per RLS procedure. Do you think 6 is not confident enough?

Re: Ampera/Volt inverter with Lebowski brain

I am on to tuning out the rumble and shaking in the Leaf motor. I am using Chevy Volt inverter with 600A 600V IGBTs Leaf motor should pull out with power, but it doesnt happen. We keep getting the shaking and surge just before driveoff into a steep hill. Are that position sensors or bad settings? Mo...

Haha guys slow down please... i want to ABuse Prius inverter. I will not use it as it was intended. BUT while car will be charging i want to use this halfh bridge to charge the...

Re: Lebowski's motor controller IC, schematic & setup, new v2.A1

Amber this needs to be isolated! That's why I posted the circuit! Depends on how far reaching you want your power stage blowup to be  Arber, i dont really understand the distinction beween the 400 and 650, but the controller ic needs to see the power stage supply voltage. :?: I guess my comme...

Nope, Prius driver stage takes care of this for me. I just reap the fruits of its labour :). It is similar to Volt driver stage, even better protected.

Re: Lebowski's motor controller IC, schematic & setup, new v2.A1

Arber, I think you misunderstand. When you want to deal with a 400 V battery you need to divide this voltage down by a factor 80. The controller IC will then work correctly for battery voltages between 200 and 400V, as these map in the 2.5 - 5 V range. You should not map 0 - 400V on 2.5 - 5V ! You'...

Re: Lebowski's motor controller IC, schematic & setup, new v2.A1

Ah and you use resistors to set the division for your viable input range. I get it! No need to worry about 2.5V range if you are never there. Thank you Arlo. However i am working now on Prius inverter and it has nice 0 - 5V voltage detection output which describes 0V - 650Vdc on the HV side and 0V -...

Re: Lebowski's motor controller IC, schematic & setup, new v2.A1

Hi Lebowski What kind of circuit would you use with analog voltage signal 0-5V for values from 0-400Vdc? You say your circuit only sees signal from 2.5V to 5V. That would mean i can only use signal from 200V to 400V! Could i translate 0-5V signal to 2.5-5V effectively? Suggestion? Should i use one A...

Maybe show a quick schematic of your intentions wrt the current sensors and the 2k2 resistors ? And I dont understand the bit about the 4k7 capacitors ? Re: Ampera/Volt inverter with Lebowski brain

I think i used 1 kOhm and 10 nF in the (single) current sensor lines... for two sensors each sensor would need its own 2.2kOhm resistor in series with its output and then connect to the 10 nF. The resistor is a bit higher because two 2.2kOhm's in parallel is roughly 1 kOhm. This way by using equal ...

Re: Ampera/Volt inverter with Lebowski brain

Hah, great minds truly think alike. I see he used some lenght of cable before he attached in paralel. I wonder if this is what Paul was describing when he told about his AC controller being used as DC motor controller. He paraleled uppe and lower IGBTs to get like 1000A push pull unit. He told he ha...

Re: Ampera/Volt inverter with Lebowski brain

Dont thjnk parallelling two output stages is a problem, but I would definitely use all 6 current sensors then ! You can add the current sensor outputs using resistors. Hm... so i could just connect sensors in the same order they are connected to outputs. I.e. sensor A1 of one IPM would be parallel ...

Re: Ampera/Volt inverter with Lebowski brain

Point 1 may still be caused by motor resistance not correct, you will need to experiment a bit. Or have a look in the saved conkout data (main menu y, only if you online saved else itll just be the old data) to see what happened. About takeoff, if at full current the torque is not enough it wont go...

Re: Ampera/Volt inverter with Lebowski brain

Interesting drive in what way ? There was lots of power available once motor started reving. From the stop however i would still have to start with 1st or 2nd. 3rd would stall the motor. Re: Ampera/Volt inverter with Lebowski brain

I spend some time in Mazda RX8 yesterday. I did like you said and corrected/updated all menus. I put 300A to field weakening, some 75% and i found out motor wanted to turn to 9000rpm on 200Vdc! I reduced erpms then to 35kerpm and it is turning healthy up to 8Krpm. After a short but interesting drive...

Re: Adding halls to BLDC motors

You power two motor phases to align and lock position of rotor and then zero the sensor by shorting a set of zeroing pads. At least on RMC22 sensor, guess same here. works beautifully :D Exactly that! But i figured also that Lebowski controler can find and correct a bit of offset if you just use ze...
