Is the engine a stressed member of the frame ? Then no.

Re: Power PCB for Lebowski Controller to be combined with Bobc's processor board

The one thing to watch out for is the PWM frequency these ready made high power stages can take. A lower PWM frequency might become audible, and will limit the max motor erpm. I wpuld say max erpm/60 should be less than 10% of PWM frequency. So a big igbt powerstage that can handle max PWM of 5 kHz,...

Re: Toyota Prius A/C Compressor Motorbike: The Bike of IPM Motor Science

Perhaps the Lebowski controller can do this; or could be modified to do so. Similarly, Incememed's SFOC5 might, too. I am not very familiar with either controller unfortunately. If they use FOC, they they probably could run this motor just fine. If they use block commutation, then the motor would s...

Re: True FOC: definition and examples

For me FOC means that (when powering) the motor current vector is lined up with the Back EMF vector Could you please explain that a little bit further ? The back EMF will probably not be a sinusoid, so what is the back EMF vector based on ? i.e. from what basis is it calculated ? Is it based on an ...

Re: True FOC: definition and examples

I think in the truest sense of the word FOC is the jump in reference frame from the outside world (where the rotor is turning) to the world of the rotor, where everything stands still. Like you walking from the couch to the fridge. Looking at this trip from the moon (lets say the moon is the outside...

Re: True FOC: definition and examples

Open Source License ? No clue what that is.... this is why I am not on Github, all this extra management nonsence is what i dont need in my hobby. I have enough of that at work. The source code is there for everyone to see so as far as i am concerned its open source.

Re: True FOC: definition and examples

For me FOC means that (when powering) the motor current vector is lined up with the Back EMF vector, for max efficiency. During regen the current vector is lined up with the Stator voltage vector, again for max efficiency. This is called SOC, Stator Oriented Control.

Re: True FOC: definition and examples

Note that if you have three wires going to motor windings, due to Kirchoff's Current Law, once you know the current in two of the phases, you automatically know the current in the third. My first hybrid (Honda Civic Hybrid) had only two current sensors for the three phase traction motor for that re...

Re: True FOC: definition and examples

Lebowski controller it is not OpenSource and it is written in assembly which makes it hard to learn from and adapt. ? I posted the source code at the beginning of this month so how is it not open source ? I cannot help it when people dont speak assembly, but that doesnt make it any less open source.

Re: APL's DIY axial-flux motor

People have different ideas of what DIY is anymore. It seems more like 'assembly' of store bought parts these days. And how fast you can do it. Hear hear ! For me too the process of the build and the research going into it are more important than the end result... else i'd just get an ebike in the ...

Re: What's so bad about low impedence?

Just my $0.02 ... the whole impedance story is wrong. The motor generates a voltage (the backemf) in which you are putting a current -> the amoujt of mechanical power you get is voltage times current. I dont see why this would not work with a superconductor. Agreed. Back-EMF becomes an issue once t...

Re: Lebowski controller IC 2.A1 source code and (short) explanation

Very interesting, thanks for sharing. On the loopfilter block diagram the two outputs of the multiplier (rotator) are the imaginary and the real parts? Imaginary is used to obtain omega/phi and real for Vr? Yes... so when you have a positive imaginary part after the rotator it will increase both th...

Re: What's so bad about low impedence?

Not really. An absolutely ideal motor will present an impedance equal to its mechanical power output. Outputting 100 watts? Then if you are driving the motor at 36 volts, you will see an effective impedance of 13 ohms. Even if it uses superconducting wire, frictionless bearings etc etc. Just my $0....

I did an archive of the shared sources and notes on a Github so it is very easy to see the sources code on any device. Re: Lebowski controller IC 2.A1 source code and (short) explanation

Two improvement suggestions based on comments received: - For the rotation in the loopfilters (from current to voltage, as explained above) it always uses the motor impedance angle. When this angle is wrong the controller can go unstable under high load. For this reason Arber333 and Arlo1 had to exp...

Re: Lebowski controller IC 2.A1 source code and (short) explanation

What you have to realise is that running a motor is a 2-dimensional control problem. In a simple sensored FOC motor phase is known and the 2-dimensional control determines the real and imaginary output voltage, based on real and imaginary wanted motor current. For sensorless FOC the imaginary output...

Re: Lebowski controller IC 2.A1 source code and (short) explanation

In essence the sensorless part of the controller is a Stator Oriented Controller but with an added shift in the output stage to make it a Field Oriented Controller. A Stator Oriented Controller works on a simple principle: to get maximum power at the stator point of view the voltage vector must alig...

Lebowski controller IC 2.A1 source code and (short) explanation

For various reasons I have decided to post the code of the Lebowski controller IC here on ES. I would be very interested in building a next version for a high power controller using t...
