Re: Enduro type frame front fork selection.

I would get a 2-3 year old excellent condition Fox 40 for half that price on Pinkbike. The fox is even tougher, with thicker stanchions. It gets a lot of complaints of being too rigid on bikes compared to the boxxer as the boxxer only has 35mm diameter vs 40mm that allows it to flex a litte. That e...

Re: Hitch-mounted bike carrier for 150 lb of ebikes

Part of why I just bought the big van. Holds a dirt bike, e bike, and pedal bike inside with ease. and can carry a couple kyacks on top. And then tows a small house to 9,000 feet, where I can breathe again. Allergic to nothing at that height. Not much use for the kayacks at 9000ft though :D The air...

Re: How much power is too much power? (hub motor)

We are not putting pedals on motorcycles, we are putting motors on pedal bikes. ES is not a forum about the law in your neighborhood. It is not about the law at all. It is about development of electric vehicles, in the whole world. Each of us is responsible for himself and dealing with the law where...

... humanly attainable speed I have done 50 mph on a DH bike that had no motor. So, when I ride 50 mph on my ebike I am at ‘humanely attainable speed’, if some lesson teaching parrot would care. It’s been the same song for a decade on ES. There should be a section of the forum discussing only grann...

Re: Enduro frame build- advice for beginner

I think those leaf motors can handle 3-5kw so you want that power for the hub motor to make sense, if you just want 1-2kw then just get a bafang bbhd and a regular mtb and keep it light. Its all about power to weight ratio. Can you explain this part to me? what does the 3-5kw refer to? An DD hub wi...

If the crank is a fraud on a fast ebike, then the motor is a fraud on a 25 mph ebike. :D

400A @ 72v doesn't seem unachievable. You are close, no? Whats holding ya back? Anything in particular? Weight and handling I could, but it wouldn’t meet my requirements. I have built many, but many are gone because they were collecting dust in the garage. I always ride the 2 best, street and dirt....

Re: Tyres for commuter bike ? Schwalbe Marathon + disaster

I replaced a worn out tire this week. Tubeless dirty Street Hog, on which I saw 7 or 8 punctures successfully plugged by the sealant. I saved the foam core and cleaned the rim, taped it as new after some fine trueing. Completed the tire change in an hour. Very long of course, but no regrets. It is g...

Re: How much power is too much power? (hub motor)

Yep. Too much power for some bike, or some rider. Even then, a bike always can be improved, and a rider getting better. IMO, that is the purpose of building, and riding. I had a goal to build a 40 hp bike using only bicycle components. I don’t know if I will ever make it, but I am now at 25 kw sub 1...

Re: Tyres for commuter bike ? Schwalbe Marathon + disaster

Some say Tubeless is the way to go. I am not convinced, yet. I like tubeless, but it doesn’t come without some downsides. It is not all combinations of rim and tires that are making a good tubeless job. They are sometimes hard to inflate, on wide rims especially, so it is good to use a CO2 inflator...

Here bike paths are more dangerous than streets. If I ever ride them, it is for a few blocks as a shortcut to avoid trafic.

Re: How much power is too much power? (hub motor)

Racing courses in those years were very different from modern GP. This bike had re-used brakes from 1920 to save weight and gain some speed advantage over the competition. It did, but the rims were hardly lasting one race.

Re: Who sells hub motors with L10 connectors Besides Ebike.ca

The connector itself is not suitable for high power, and a nightmare to rebuild. IT IS 12GA wire which has 40ampacity rating. Many ebikes dont' go past 25amps under normal operation. so I am puzzled why you say it is not suitable for high power? Their peak claims of 100a for short periods is kind o...

Re: Enduro frame build- advice for beginner

I like modern carbon DH frames, but I agree that CF is a specialty that is not easy to master for building custom ebikes. I am still building on alu frames, but carbon is an option that I have not ruled out. Why not Titanium? I have checked some custom Ti frames. I find they have too much flex. Car...

I have a full face helmet with integrated cam but I have to admit that I never wear it. My light weight carbon DH helmet came with a Go-Pro cam mount but I took it off the first day. I just abandoned the idea of filming my rides. Good riding films anyway, need to be a view from the rider behind you.

Re: Enduro frame build- advice for beginner

Slacker head angle is perfect for fast bikes. I agree that wheelbase need to be stretched, and making custom steel dropouts is a good occasion to do so. My common wheelbase setting is 51.5’’. I like 10-15 yr old frames because they were made for pure gravity then, and to handle big drops. I use an A...
