Many are belt driven. The noise and power loss could be from belt slip.

Re: Vee Chicane Tires - Load capability?

For the original poster...most bicycle tires don't have the load rating available or on the sidewall. Tire load capacity is directly related to tire weight/size ratio. When no max load is spec, like bicycle tires, it is the only way to know which are likely to stand higher load. Not the biggest tir...

Re: Controller settings...

If you run two motors and one is set lower power than the other, the lower power motor will supply very little work. It will supply its power from the moment the other one does lag. As long as the most powerful motor will achieve the speed command, the lower power motor will just follow with minimal...

Re: Wooden sticks

Most of your ‘hi tech’ hub motors are wound at home by women and children. That is common sub-contracting in China. As for bamboo sticks, they are a common way to do, cheap and practical. For the price that you pay them, you are not really expecting titanium, ceramics and composite materials, do you...

Re: E-Trike Design: Balloon Tires vs Dedicated suspension

Thinking that tires can be a suspension is a common myth. ... below 35km/h, it's good enough for commuting Yep. At 35 kmh on the streets, suspension is not required. 3 inch tires are best for most ebikes, and the larger the wheel the better the handling, the smoother the ride. Fat tires, 4 to 5 inc...

Re: E-Trike Design: Balloon Tires vs Dedicated suspension

Tires are not replacing any kind of suspension. Fat tires are not improving the ability of a vehicle to handle speed. They can improve grip, or digging on loose surfaces, at lower speed especially. Thinking that tires can be a suspension is a common myth. Shock absorption is the result of positive a...

Re: Advise on cheap ebay controller for 72v qs205

The QS205 V3 does not run with just any ebike controller. It is supposed to be run with a sine wave, and is known to fry most older infineon based (and clones) square wave controllers. I have fried 3 myself before finding one that does the job, and still running. So ideally you choose one sine wave,...

Re: Set a World Record

Well, weight/hp ratio is the real way to put it. Yet, since weight alone is an important factor of ground contact friction (aka rolling resistance), the ratio curve is not to be interpreted as linear.

Mid drive for a speed record, but not any nid drive build. You have to build light, low, and aero. Those conditions are much more important than motorization.

Very light, responsive, modern cartridge design with adjust ability in five areas without openig the fork... Tune with stacks and oil. My "moder...

Re: New controller for 23s battery

Building an ebike with a 53 lbs hub is making a harsh ride. 33 lbs hub was a big challenge to tune a proper suspension. Took me 2 years riding various config, lot of parts and mods, and I am not a newb in this domain. If I ever decide to build heavier, I would definitely go mid drive and motorcycle ...

Re: Has anyone here tried mounting a 23" motorcycle tire on a 27.5 bicycle rim (or 22" mc tire on 26 bike rim)?

Manufacturers are going to produce the custom tire that you want at competitive cost with existing similar construction and size, if you supply the molds. So, you have to divide the cost of the mold by the number of tires that you order: to add to the usual tire cost. Some bike manufacturers have so...

Re: Efficiency test Geared vs Direct Drive Hub motors

There is a variety of tire foam inserts now. They are catching up in DH racing like they became the norm in off road motorcycle racing a decade ago. The Cush Core are improving the tire action and let us ride lower PSI, making them the favorite right now. Of course, it is an expansive solution, like...

Re: What could I do in the predicament?

In high power application, we never prioritize longevity. We are happy enough with reliability. 10 years ago, RC lipo were not as good as today and we were buying them like gas. Now, the best cells are very reliable, and can do 500 to 600 cycles fast charging/high discharge. Not so long ago, we felt...

Re: What could I do in the predicament?

Ebikes are fine with 15C. This is relative to power usage and battery capacity. When building with a small 8Ah battery, 15C will safely deliver 120A which is more than enough for most. But what if one has a big motor/controller that are able to pull 250A in acceleration? Every hard start will build...

Re: Efficiency test Geared vs Direct Drive Hub motors

New DH racing rims and tires are tubeless, beadless, and we ride them with Cush Core inserts and slime. Better flat protection than most motorcycle tires. And they are softer gum than most motorcycle tires too, giving the extra grip to ride fast on a light weight bike. They have a short life of cour...

With 8 wires, your throttle is more than a throttle. It must have some extra accessories, like power switch, 3 spd switch, voltmeter... some things that justify the extra wires.

So, you first need to parse which wire goes where, and what for.

Did it really have time to rust enough to lock? DD hubs have very few parts that can lock. I suppose it is a geared hub then. Re: What could I do in the predicament?

The 15C discharge rate of the Graphene Pro bricks is very conservative. The big bricks are under rated deliberately, because the bigger the bricks the higher the risk of overheating. If you are building with 4 bricks only, I recommend higher discharge C-rate. The Graphene Panther are best, but you ...

Yep. Three series of four, each in a bag: front fork mounted bag, top tube bag, and down tube bag. The frame triangle is clear, but for a big shock. Modular batteries are letting you ride with 8,16, or 24 Ah easily. Useful when you don’t have the same commuting distance all the time, and you don’t n...
