Re: Frey M600 V2, 21700 battery pack

I find that the 10aH packs will allow for about 45-50km of range on a ride with 200m of elevation gain as long as you are never on the throttle, and keep the assist levels conservative (never higher than 4, and often on 1). That would be for a 200lb person on the Frey M600. On the same ride with She...

Re: Bafang M500/M600 thread

Wayne, that may help explain why I cannot make head nor tails out of trying the measure the voltage out of the battery terminals on my Giant Full-e, which prevents me from building my own external battery pack for it. On my M600 however (which has a throttle), all that battery needs to do is deliver...

Re: Bafang M500/M600 thread

My limited understanding would lead me to believe that Canbus is integrated into your controller. The controller would also have the required buck converters to use the 48V to supply the 5V. That's why I assumed your motor kit must have a connector for the throttle on the wiring loom.

Re: Bafang M500/M600 thread

On my M600 the battery pack supplies 48V to the system. There is no other connections except for the charger port. In this respect an OEM battery would not differ from an aftermarket DIY. Doesn't the wiring harness on the motor kit have a junction for the throttle?

Re: Bafang M500/M600 thread

Wayne, my experience is similar to yours, with a number of problems I initially encountered documented in previous posts. In fact I just got a new cage plate from Ali Express to replace the one I bent when I did not notice the rear derailleur was not torqued properly and traveled into the spokes and...

Re: Bafang M500/M600 thread

No problem. When I first asked them they said it was just Alu Alloy, but I asked them to go back to Bafang and check because an 'alloy' can have various components, including magnesium. So they got back to me a day later and said they had been able to confirm there was no magnesium. Frey seems prett...

Re: Bafang M500/M600 thread

Ahh if they made the m600 in magnesium that would be the ticket! :bigthumb: Why the hell would they use something heavier?? Of course it's already cast in magnesium alloy. I was curious about this, so I asked our rep at Frey to look into it with Bafang. The reply was that the case is Aluminum Alloy...

Re: Bafang M500/M600 thread

Interesting to see the note about the nominal voltage of 42. Does that mean they are using 13 LiFePO4 cells in series in the battery pack that you reference? No actually it's 12s 18650's Andy Wow, that is good to know. FWIW, when I ordered the Frey M600 I bought it with no battery, just 3 empty bat...

Re: Bafang M500/M600 thread

Thanks for the reply. When I first built that 52V battery I tried 3 or 4 times to power it up at full charge. I had to run it down a bit by attaching it to my Spouse' bike and let the lights run for awhile, then the M600 would power up. I have a bag of the XT60 connectors so I think I may start to r...

Re: Bafang M500/M600 thread

It was that video that allowed me to go ahead and build a 52V pack. However, my Frey M600 would not power up at the full charge of 58.8. Further investigation revealed in would power up below 58V. So I reset the charger to cut-off at 57.4V, and it works well. I also have been having issues at times ...

Re: Bafang M500/M600 thread

It will take a bit of creative engineering. The magnet is just on one of the spokes, but the transducer is mounted in a stanchion that has been welded onto the chainstay.

Re: Frey M600 V2, 21700 battery pack

Due to having the '2P' configuration, your maximum nominal current capacity for those cells would be around 14.5A. The M600 in real world use under a max load condition that I have been able to apply (steep mountain road, power level '9' and full throttle), is around 9 amps for the 52V pack, and can...

Re: Bafang M500/M600 thread

I have noticed a difference with the 52V pack to the extent that it is the 'daily driver' pack. Not just with speed, but there is an overall better feel to it. I also decided to give a 52V pack a try when I read a post in some other forum from someone that looked at the ratings on the MOSFET's that ...

Re: Bafang M500/M600 thread

That's the video I watched before I decided to use a 52V battery. However, the one difference for the Frey I have, I have to adjust the charger down to be below 58V, as my bike will not power up if it is above 58V. Accordingly, I set mine to disconnect at 57.4V.

Re: Bafang M500/M600 thread

I think the icon you are referring to is the backlight status of your controller display, which can be dimmed or disabled. On my bike, I bought it with the Shimano lights already installed. They are not activated via the controller, there is an on/off switch on the headlight. The tail light also has...

Re: Bafang M500/M600 thread

I see what you mean. Indeed the Canbus integration issue notwithstanding, I guess all I can attest to is as long as you can supply anything in the range of 48 to 52 volt battery packs to those two points, the system has no other checks to see if the battery is proprietary, so nothing special is requ...

Re: Bafang M500/M600 thread

Aren't all batteries that are 'in frame' integrated batteries unique to that bike? For example, the battery on my Giant Full-e does not fit other bikes either. The Frey M600 has 4 contact points at the bottom of the battery bay. 2 are positive and negative that come in from the charger port, and are...

Re: Bafang M500/M600 thread

Interesting. Not sure what the reference "lack of battery compatibility," refers to. 52V perhaps? I've had lots of issues I've identified, but I was very happy with the fact that Frey gave me a discount for not buying a battery, but also sold me 3 empty battery packs at a very reasonable price so I ...

Re: Bafang M500/M600 thread

Interesting, I did not realize the OEM thumb throttle on my Frey could be improved on, I haven't thought much about it. However, as you note, I use it all the time when I need assistance on short steep pitches, and it really helps when you want to power out of deep snow on the side of a packed trail...

Re: Bafang M500/M600 thread

The section in your picture of the battery end cap on Page 4 can be easily removed and replaced. Take the end cap off the battery pack by removing the 4 screws. After you unsolder the contact points, you can remove the 2 screws and pop that contact panel out. Get Frey to sell you a new panel and sen...

Re: Bafang M500/M600 thread

I've ridden my M600 about 250km's now, and have started to notice that on one trail I often take, I pedal strike some root taps and rock evulsions on the trail that I've never hit before when the bike is upright but the pedal is the bottom of the stroke. Is that what this thread discussion addresses...

Frey M600 V2, Purchase, Pre, and Post-assembly tips

On Oct 3 of 2019, I contacted Frey about ordering a Frey M600 V2 and some extra parts direct from Frey in China (the higher spec version). The order process was painless, and my sales rep at Frey, 'Grace', kept me up to date as the order went through the various fulfilment stages. From the time I ma...

Re: Can heating up battery give longer distance?

Thanks for the suggestion. I've played with heated gloves for skiing for quite a few years. At the moment using bar mitts with liquid fuel handwarmers in them, work well, advantage is you can wear your summer cycling gloves at -20C.
