Re: Full suspension mountain bike Friction Drive

Slow but steady on this project. Lots of protyping but finally making headway on the Specialized Stumpjumper Carbon Comp. Mounting to an oddly shaped carbon fibre swing arm has been a challenge but with a combination of hand carved machined plastic to meet the curves and bumps, milled aluminium, and...

Re: Bafang M500/M600 thread

For anyone interested I have attached the specs for the new Dengfu frame E10. This is their upgrade to the current M09 used for Luna X1. SMART features are currently being tested which suggests that there may a chance that Bafang is opening up some of the communication protocols to the M600. These ...

Re: Bafang M500/M600 thread

Just wondering if anyone has done the new Luna Silent Drive gear upgrade yet. I did the upgrade today. Was going to do a video on it but the actual gear replacement is very straight forward with the secondary reduction gears just popping out by hand once you had the drive apart as shown in my teardo...

Re: Kepler Friction drive comes of age.

The mechanical conversion to lock the drive in using a remote fork lockout is really easy to do. The gravity spring is no longer needed and you just need to add a 4mm flat washer to the motor attachment bolt to lock the cable down. Lots of cheap options for remote fork lockouts (just google it). Cos...

Re: Kepler Friction drive comes of age.

You can get the regen to work without reprogramming the Arduino interface but you will need to change the setup within the Vesc. You will need to make changes in the App settings/PPM from "Current No Reverse" to "Current No Reverse With Brake" You will then need to re scale the Arduino output. In si...

Re: Full suspension mountain bike Friction Drive

Finally found a true MTB tire that works with a friction drive. I am not sure if the tire is new model but was very pleased to find it. Tire is a Schwalbe Smart Sam. 2.6" wide 29'er. It has a thread section down the middle of the tire that is closely packed enough to run a roller over without soundi...

Re: Kepler Friction drive comes of age.

It sounds like its more an issue with the settings in the vesc. Make sure you have the max wattage set really high so it is taken out of the picture. Start with low current settings. Say 10A battery and 20A motor. Also make sure your 2 voltage cut offs are set correcty. See if it will stay engaged t...

Re: Kepler Friction drive comes of age.

Find a 140kv or lower motor. Flipsky have one that will suit that is a 6354 size.

I presume you have 20A cells in that 13S1P pack.

VESC recommends a max of 12S however the components are rated at 60v so it should be ok.

Hats off to Frey on this one. There really is no other commercial commuter/part time cross country bike that can compare to this. If they can market this bike well it should be a great seller.

Re: Kepler Friction drive comes of age.

Rode some local hills today that thankfully were not on fire to give the locking mech a good shakedown and really test the regen. To make it even more interesting, one of the riders was on a new Specialized Creo Expert so I had something to compare my bike against both in range and performance. I am...

Re: Bafang M500/M600 thread

That's ridiculous. An m600 is no more powerful then any of those other brands. As long as the speed limit is proven and complies, then there shouldnt be an issue. I have raced stock ebikes in turbo mode and me in the highest power setting and up to 25km (actually typically 27km), the bikes are typic...

Re: Kepler Friction drive comes of age.

I currently have two different types of friction drive approaches at the moment. The tire climbing under power design as documented in this thread and the constant contact type as documented in this thread http://www.endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=96581&sid=b676dc4b5f5d1b33815c1abbff...

Re: Dengfu M09 Endruo/Freeride build log

Yes rule of thumb is no more more then 20mm. So stick with a 170mm fork if want to play safe. However I still cant see an issue with the 180mm travel fork as I know that total front end height works well on the bike. Only thing is an imbalance of plushness between the back and front. Nothing that an...

Re: Dengfu M09 Endruo/Freeride build log

I think that would be no problems at all. My set up with a 160mm travel 29er fork with a 29er wheel would be very similar in total length to what you are proposing.

Re: FREY eMTB with Bafang m600 is developing with your ideas!

My experience is that the pedal assist cuts out at 40kph (25mph). It will only go to 45kph (28mph) if you use the throttle. I was thinking it was just my version of the M600 but the Luna X1 boys are reporting the same. At first it was thought that the gearing was the governing factor but this has si...

Re: Luna Cycle X-1 Enduro FS (Bafang M600 / Dengfu M09)

I rode with a bunch of emtb's on the weekend. All sorts of high end bikes with all sorts of drives. My M600 didnt stand out as noisy in the group and was very similar to the Shimano Steps in sound. Point is that it really just blended in with the other mid drive bikes. That being said, if a plastic ...

Re: Kepler Bottom Bracket Friction Drive For Sale (Finally)

You could lock it up if you wanted to by removing the shim washer in the pivot mech. You could then lock it on the tire when you wanted and unlock it off the tire should you run out of batteries. I do run a permanent contact setup with my mountain bike which has some advantages.(Thread on that bike ...

The bike is 2018 Trek Domane SL7 Project One. Cost around $6000 USD. Approx $400 USD for the complete electric drive system (not including labour of course :) ). I decided to use this bike because you have access to the inside the frame through a small removable cover under the water bottle I am usi...

Here is a quick video (nothing too exciting) of the bike setup with with 27.5+ 2.8" rear and 29er 2.6" front on a 29er ebike specific Fox 36 fork. Really happy with the way the bike rides in this configuration. The level of noise is pretty accurate to what you are really hearing on the bike. Also ad...

Re: Wayne’s Dengfu Carbon Fibre FS 27.5” with Bafang M600 (throttle also)

I would recommend sticking with 13S 48V. Although I would be surprised if 14S 52V would do any damage to the drive, you could loose the very nice low battery level management built in to the controller and would then need to rely entirely on your battery BMS for battery protection. BMS low battery v...

Re: Dengfu M09 Endruo/Freeride build log

It looks like that head set adapter would work. I know the bike specs say 66.5 degree head angle, however as standard, the bike never felt like other bikes i have with 66.5 degree head angle. I have never bothered to actually check if the dimension is true but it would be an interesting exercise to ...

Hi Wayne. It does exactly that. It hits 25mph, the assist stops. Just slightly below 25 mph the assist is back.

Re: Luna Cycle X-1 Enduro FS (Bafang M600 / Dengfu M09)

I know my motor wasn't supplied by Luna bit i think there is a pretty good chance they are exactly the same. It is marked as 45kph motor (28mph) but it definitely cuts out at 25mph. Gearing is out of the equation with mine as I have a 38 tooth chain ring. cuts out at 25mph on the 13 tooth on the cas...
