Re: Problems with a hub motor

I counted at least 5 spoke holes that are gone due to chunks gone from case on the left side alone. Well spotted, the other side of the is exactly the same. It was almost free  I've physically it restored by drilling new spoke holes 1/2 way between the original spoke holes and re-laced it wit...

Will the derailleur be able to accommodate the jump in size between the gears since they aren't as close in diameter anymore? Sorry I don't know much about these bikes.
It might make a little more noise while shifting, but should be okay.

That motor is ready for the parts-bin anyway. I counted at least 5 spoke holes that are gone due to chunks gone from case on the left side alone. The right side is missing more spokes it looks like?

Re: Solar panel charging question.

I took another approach. Instead of mounting panels on trike I just use them to charge battery. I plug up when I get home after each ride. 100W panel works nicely for my packs (I have two 8AH 12S packs). Panel is mounted to outside of garage wall. Charge controller (programmable for lithium chemistr...

Re: Spim08hp 3.7v 8ah 200amp cell

This is what I settled on for connecting cells together for 1P packs. Ive built an 10S, 11S, and 12S pack using this "clam-clip"method. "clam-clip" method These packs have been in heavy service (30-amps maximum) for my daily-driver pack for past 6 months: IMG_0708.JPG https://www.youtube.com/watch?v...

Tabs are only 3/8" long......and cell is 1/4" thick.
Any attempt to bend cells over each other will ruin cells.

Re: Increasing top speed by overvolting?

I'm a big fan of overvolting. Be careful though because you can fry your electronics&motor if you overdue things too much. Familiarize yourself with a motor analyzer tool where you can input motor specs, battery, controller information and test "what if" overvolting scenarios. I use ebike.ca's motor...

Re: Geared hub motor threw a magnet......

Well it took a few months....but I finally got around to fixing old motor. I used Loctite EA 9394. It is pretty expensive, so I waited for a good deal and got a 50ml mix for about .10c on the dollar. Rated for almost 400 degrees, has a working time of 90 minutes before it starts to thicken. I went a...

Re: Would like to make an eTrike less prone to tipping over

As you have already mention, keep CG as low as possible. And riding technique will keep you right-side up as well, which is a learned skill specific to trike your model/build. My first trike was a Sun....it was OK, but the model I had was prone to tipping over and I sold it shortly after I bought it...

Re: E-bike or E-motorcycle?

Do you think an e-trike would feel stable at 30-35mph on a gravel bike path? No. 20MPH max on gravel. My trike is quite stable on paved surfaces up to about 25MPH. Things get twitchy for anything over this. 30MPH+ is dangerous and asking for trouble on my setup. A longer wheelbase trike that the on...

Re: Any lipo checker that is not powered only from first cell?

A switch wouldn't really help in my application because I'd like to use it while riding Exactly....turn it on when you ride, turn it off when done with ride. But it would probably still drain too much current while riding to cause small cell imbalance I guess. Not true....they only draw about 50MA....

This 28Mph e-conversion project was engineered with a focus on value, performance, and stealth. My build does not look like its e-powered. It is also very quiet. Put a switch on first input wire to lipo checker.....just turn it off when not in use and it does not draw current.

Time to drop a cell (or two?) from my packs? Speed is getting a bit much.

I've had a ton of fun with my etrike for past year, upgrading it and getting faster along the way. Currently trike does 28MPH (faster if conditions are right). Those speeds can do some serious injuries? Either I need to gear up or slow down. :-( FYI I also own a motorcycle: When I ride I ALWAYS wear...

I've been using them for over two years now.
Built a 3S3P pack for my e-kayak.
an 11S and 12S for my two etrike projects.
I find them very reliable and as safe as any quality LIPO pouch cell.

I also built mine from scratch. Took a budget&minimalist approach though. My trike build is dialed in for 25MPH for entire ride....It will do 30 under right conditions (fresh pack, no head wind, etc.), but I rarely take it that fast. My favorite cruse speed is around 20MPH which gives good economy w...

Re: Why does my 36v e- bike cut off when I put a 42v silver fish battery In place of the 36v silver fish battery

My controller works great on 10S 36V pack. It also works great for 13S 48V pack.
The controller auto-adjusts LVC for either a 10S or 13S pack.
However 12S is not so great......unfortunately it adjusts LVC for a 13S pack.
So over 4V (13*.33V) is left on the table.

Geared hub motor threw a magnet......

One of the magnets on my motor came unglued.
Anyone ever have any luck gluing them back with epoxy?
Motor is geared Q128C hub motor....magnets are on armature.
