Re: My Bafang Ultra Mountain Bike! NEW FREY EX and FREY CC

no links, vids or pics.. so it didn't happen?? sorry I don't have time or poor connection for BS?? It was mentioned here: https://electrek.co/2019/09/16/frey-bike-electric-bicycle-cc-ex-am1000/ Frey Bike has a number of patents on the new models, mostly centering around the suspension linkage. And ...

Re: My Bafang Ultra Mountain Bike! NEW FREY EX and FREY CC

do you have a link for that patent filing.. bc I didn't see it yet;).. No link, but was mentioned in various articles. I doubt Jeep would risk going with a company that copied FREY's suspension so believe it is FREY making the Jeep ebike and some of the QuietKat models that look identical to FREY's...

Re: My Bafang Ultra Mountain Bike! NEW FREY EX and FREY CC

Seems like they have grown significantly, not just direct to consumer but it looks like they are producing bikes for QuietKat and Jeep, and even Bolton is offering a bike that looks like a rebadged AM1000 with Frey's patented rear suspension. Hopefully they have added support staff to handle.

Re: Bafang Ultra full suspension fat bike frame?

Not sure what's going on at Luna but they say the Apex will be available to order again soon. Seems they are waiting on a photo shoot which implies a redesign. Perhaps they made a deal with Dengfu to produce a fat bike version of the X1 similar to the images above but with more battery capacity.

Re: Frey EX E-MTB with Bafang M620, Advice on ordering

As far as my rotor issues, could be bad pm adapter fit (frey substituted aftermarket due to supply issues), Did Frey inform you of this component substitution or did you discover it after you took delivery? Frey indicated after the fact that they ran out of supply presumably due to covid which was ...

Re: My Bafang Ultra Mountain Bike! Frey AM1000

Any reason besides cost to be looking at Ansbern vs. FREY? So many pitfalls ordering direct from China and ways to get taken, FREY may not be the cheapest but you know what you are getting. I did a search for Ansbern on ES and one person here bought one of their bikes. Seemed they had some issues, n...

Re: My Bafang Ultra Mountain Bike! Frey AM1000

That occurred to me as well, but wasn't sure how to check. I ended up ordering some MDR-P rotors, QM42 adapters, and 9C brake pads. Will give that a try and compare the adapters to the ones Frey used. My front brakes are definitely not mounted correctly by the substituted PM adapters.

Re: Frey EX E-MTB with Bafang M620, Advice on ordering

As far as my rotor issues, could be bad pm adapter fit (frey substituted aftermarket due to supply issues), but if you read up on the MDR-P rotors they are probably worth upgrading if you are using for steep trail descents. You will want dual battery. Not thrilled with the range on my CC. I'm lucky ...

Re: Frey EX E-MTB with Bafang M620, Advice on ordering

For sure get the version with extra battery. You'll want it for extended rides. Ultra motor sucks a lot of battery if you use the power. I got the gear sensor on my CC and not sure I like it. When I go over bumps power will cut off, not sure if it's the brake sensor or gear sensor but these can get ...

Re: My Bafang Ultra Mountain Bike! Frey AM1000

I assume the MDR-C rotor at half the price of the MDR-P is not worth trying. It does have more rigidity than the storm HC but you seem to think the issue with the noise has more to do with the inconsistent rotor coverage, correct?

Re: My Bafang Ultra Mountain Bike! Frey AM1000

Thanks again for the info, very helpful. BTW, I found this article very interesting regarding the brake pad performance: https://theloamwolf.com/2020/04/24/review-magura-mt5-disc-brakes/ Another overview of the rotors and discussion of pads (apparently there is a sport version but doesn't seem avail...

Re: My Bafang Ultra Mountain Bike! Frey AM1000

my Frey EX has of course MDR-P 220mm  and the blue pads. a nice combination, the MDR-Ps have an enormous usable braking area After a few email exchanges with FREY I'm not sure they understand there is a problem with the Tektro PM adapters. As you pointed out my pads are biting to high on my fr...

Re: My Bafang Ultra Mountain Bike! Frey AM1000

I cleaned the rotor with steel wool and scrubbed the brake pads with a toothbrush and light soap. I plan to let it dry overnight and then sand the pads gently. For good measure I will rinse both with isopropyl alcohol and let it burn off any lingering residue. The internet is a dangerous source of ...

Re: My Bafang Ultra Mountain Bike! Frey AM1000

Thanks, it seems I do not have original Magura adapters on either front or rear brake. Front and rear look identical. I did not check to see if the front adapter was ground as I did not want to re-align the brake. It took me a long time to align it after cleaning the rotors last week. I'm not sure t...

Re: My Bafang Ultra Mountain Bike! Frey AM1000

Thanks, the funny thing is it feels like I have a lot more braking power in my rear brake. My front brake doesn't seem to have much bite. I tried the spacer suggestion. I couldn't find a washer big enough for the bolt size so improvised with some square brass plates from a door lock kit. I think the...

Re: My Bafang Ultra Mountain Bike! Frey AM1000

Thanks for highlighting problem areas but my front brakes are fine (at least they don't make the drum roll noise). My issue is the rear brakes making noise. Not that I don't think you are correct regarding what is causing the noise.

Re: My Bafang Ultra Mountain Bike! Frey AM1000

Thanks, I'm not sure I understand what you did to fix your problem. You replaced the rotors? And the pads? I can try some blue pads. I'm just really surprised as I had always heard good things about Magura brakes but so far I've been a little underwhelmed. My 2 piston shimano brakes with smaller ror...

Re: My Bafang Ultra Mountain Bike! Frey AM1000

Good point, I'll try swapping the pads. The rotor bolts were all tight, at least my 6 nm wrench said so. Good to hear your rotors look as burned as mine, ha. I was careful to not touch the rotors but possible they got contaminated somehow. I suppose swapping front and rear pads would tell me.

Re: My Bafang Ultra Mountain Bike! Frey AM1000

It was raining today and figured I would take a video clip of the noise. It's not usually this loud, the wetness amplifies the sound. At speed I don't hear the noise, mostly noticable as I approach a stop. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sj_YnlTUNU8 I took a few pictures of the front and rear rotors...

Re: My Bafang Ultra Mountain Bike! Frey AM1000

Thanks, so you eventually replaced the rotor to fix? The bike came like this so maybe I'll take it up with Frey to diagnose and send a replacement rotor if it comes to that. So far I'm kind of underwhelmed by the brakes, the front brakes don't bite well but at least don't make noise or vibrate like ...

Re: My Bafang Ultra Mountain Bike! Frey AM1000

Thanks, sounds like it's somewhat normal. It's mostly just annoying. Another thing, my rear MT5 brakes sounds like a rolling drum when I come to a stop, not super loud but you can hear it. This has been from day 1. I'm in week 2 and was hoping they just needed to break in but it's not going away. I ...

Re: My Bafang Ultra Mountain Bike! Frey AM1000

Re: Wayne’s Dengfu Carbon Fibre FS 27.5” with Bafang M600 (throttle also)

I would not waste money on the ludi controller. Stock motor is powerful enough, more power will just drain battery faster and lower the lifespan of your drivetrain. If innotrace can come up with an aftermarket controller for the M600 like they did for the Ultra that might be worth investing in later.
